Application form: help required

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
I've been a Charlton fan since the mid-1970s. So, naturally, I can't remember all the details on the application form when I signed up. I know I read it all, and can remember some of it, but parts are still a bit hazy.

So, if anyone still has a copy of their Charlton Fan Application Form, can they remind me where it says we are guaranteed certain levels of results? And where it says that we have a right to expect that certain teams will always be beaten? And where it says that the best way to guarantee the success, stability and future of the club is best served by booing, hurling abuse and demanding certain players and management are sacked, sold or worse?

I know we must be able to demand a win every time we play and that all our players are fitter, faster, better, more valuable and better looking than any other team's players. (At least, I have deduced that from some comments on here). But if anyone can show me the guarantees we all signed up to, I'd be grateful.

Thanks

  • After nigh on 3 seasons of unabated decline, I think digging out some of our fans for reaching the end of their tether is a bit cheap Chizz.
  • how cringing
  • Nice sentiment mate but now is not the right time for your misguided loyalty.
  • we're a third division team with third division players .... just accept it or jog on
  • jesus ------------------flipin(family club)---------------------christ

    its the fans fault------again !!
  • What we can expect is a team of hard working individuals who are able to do the basics.

    Tonight we had neither.

They deserved every word of abuse they took tonight.

    good call

    again !!

    who said that?
  • Firstly, lol. Secondly, this is my seventeenth season as a season ticket holder - and I'm sixteen (fan since 8 months, so effectively I was zero for my 1st season, 1 for my 2nd and so on). I love this club and my brain is filled with endless bits of useless trivia. I actually know who Ralph Allen is. I'm mental about this football club. And I'm completely at the end of my tether; Parkinson has done nothing after being appointed on the back of three draws. Shoot me.
  • second paragraph top of thread " best way of success is to boo players etc etc etc"
  • Admire your approach Chizz I really do, and like you I'm a lot less reactive or as spiteful as others, but its very hard to see many positives. We seem to be going backwards, from a decent league position, our players seemed drained of confidence and want to get rid of the ball as quick as they can. We just seem to spiral from one soul searching, inept performance to another.

Its grim, and wholly unenjoyable, and not even an ok league position can mask that.

    This bit?

You're reading a lot into it. I read it as 'it doesn't help', not that 'booing/moaning brings about worse performances', or, more broadly, 'instant change is not possible'

So not "it's the fans' fault" but "the fans aren't helping", which obviously deserves a reasonable response that the players/manager aren't helping much at the moment either.

Maybe Chizz can clear it up
  • booing or not this team are unable to pass a fucking ball five yards

I disagree. Surely the league position can mask it because it shows that we are not as bad as everyone thinks. Or at least that everyone is as bad or worse than us.

I (half) watched (one eye on the match and one eye on my 2 little boys) Huddersfield v Sheff Wed, Ipswich v Forest and Charlton v Swindon today and I thought almost all of it was complete shit. Ipswich were worse than us I think because I thought we looked OK for the first ten minutes.

Most telling was what my wife said about our game: 'All that booing is just stupid'. What we should do is sign an Argentinian and then she'd be down the Valley making some real noise. I was more pissed off with the booing than the performance but then of course I don't go so I have no right to make such slanderous comments. Arrest me and charge me with sex crimes.
  • Chizz you must have such a wonderful and complete life. Unfortunately I, like 99.9 % of our fanbase do have some unrealised expectation you understand. I "signed up" when we were last in the third division so have seen the full spectrum of life as a supporter of CAFC. We have been crap and superb in equal measure over the last 30+ odd years but usually we have just been mediocre in that time. We have reached a tipping point i fear and if was not for the fact that this new mob have now come in i would be damn near suicidal after that shit today. The fans are not to blame for their expectation or their justified expression of disapointment over this stunning lack of nouse and committment displayed by players and management today. Third division they are but then so are what we have to play against. No answers from me i am afraid but if i want to boo (online of course here) I bloody well will do ! Tottingham next and i bet we put in a performance there, it is just the way of things CAFC...
  • I just don't see why anyone thinks we have a God-given right to expect to beat every team we play. As a lot of people expected, It's taken one defeat for the anti-Parkinson brigade to mount their high horses again.
  • Chizz, I don't think it's about one defeat, it's about the performance of the team over a number of games - lucky wins, lucky draws - our luck had to run out sometime. It's frustration - a feeling that the squad of players we have should be doing better and that the tactics are wrong.
