One fit striker

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
we've only got one fit striker

one fit striker one fit striker.

So what will he do for the Sky cameras and new owners chaps and chappesses? Play Adamthe Addick up top on his own or try and cobble a partnership between him and Martin?

The Colchester thread suggests Benson and Martin didn't work too well as a partnership but could Abbott and Martin?

Abbott does at least have pretensions as a target man I guess even if he is not particularly mobile.

Thoughts?

  • If the Benson appeal goes through he may play.

Sodje was on the bench so should be available.

As for Abbott and Martin, I refer you to Brentford in the JPT. Not good.

Martin played on the right that game, Abbott up front on his own.

At least the Shrewsbury game some little hope they can play together.

IIRC Preston? Or was that Benson-Martin?
  • Worried that the charlton news text flash i get says Anyinsah has spinal injuries, if true would have thought long absence
  • He has been struggling with spinal related injuries since joining us and is expected to be back soon but how long will he last? Frustrating as he is the player who really makes us tick and when he does play he invariably does the business even if only playing for 10 minutes!!! The problem with Martin is that despite being immensely talented he doesn't have a football brain. He doesn't understand how to play off a fellow striker and always wants an extra touch often failling to see the best options in terms of passes and not knowing when to get his shot off. Becaus eof his talent, he can do the magical but it isn't often enough. Abbott is a steady eady League 1 striker - no pace and needs to play with a player with power and pace or opponents have it too easy. If Sodje is fit, Abbot and Sodje may be the best bet and bring Martin on against tiring defenders later in the game. We do need Anyinsah back and with his injury issues another striker quickly.
  • Mutley thanks did not realise his injuries were all spinal. If qwe can afford then hopefully we can get another striker in to fill the gaps of his absence, although the new owners may take the view that Parkie has brought in Benson, Anyinsah, Abbott and Sodje not forgetting Martin and none have worked, for one reason or another. Reuctantly I would send Martin back to Ipswich, it seems neither Keanes aggressive man management nor Parkies arm round shoulder have worked and he needs the penny to drop that however skilled you are you need an end product.
  • personally i want akpo to play
  • personally i want anyone but akpo to play
  • Akpo looked bright and lively when he came on against Yeovil and Bristol Rovers- also scored in his only leagu start so imho deserves a chance.

    Rather Akpo than Abbott tbh.
  • Think the team needs Ackpo's physicality and endeavor - I know he is limited but he can still be a handful.

  • The good thing about spine-related injuries is that they can sometimes (emphasis on 'sometimes') be fixed fairly quickly. The pain is typically not in the spine itself, but it's the spine that refers pain to other areas - often the hamstring as with Joe Anyinsah. Once the vertebrae are 'adjusted' the body as a whole behaves much better when undergoing physical exertion.
  • There's Tuna...
  • Benson up front tonight as the club are appealing his red card
  • Apparently someone had to be helped out of the warm-up
