Best and worst moments supporting Charlton during 2010

edited December 2010 in General Charlton
This year has undoubtedly had many ups and downs. There have been moments when i've been left speechless, utterly elated and completely downbeat.

The 5 worst moments for me were:
1. Play-off defeat - lets not dwell on that
2. Losing at the scum 4 0 - i just wanted to hide away from every millwall fan at the time
3. Selling shelvey - i know we needed the money, but it was so disappointing to lose one of our own without really seeing him as much as we would've liked.
4. Selling richardson - the player i thought was our most consistent performer by the end of the season
5. Losing 4 0 to brighton - another one i'll try and forget quickly

The best moments for me were:
1. Kyle Reid's last minute goal at southend
2. Being at peterborough, in a terrace. Im not sure why but the 4th goal martin got was incredible aswell, i remember a lot of us were still celebrating the 3rd.
3. Wagstaff to make it 2 1 at orient - everything was going wrong at that point........simply incredible when the ball hit the net.
4. The 'we can do it' feeling when akpo scored against leeds?
5. Finding out we could play spurs away in the cup - i was so buzzing, regardless of the fact we weren't there just yet.

***Special mention also for the potential takeover which will beat all of the above if it is successful, and if we have new owners who want to get this club back were we should be.

I'm sure theres probably others i've forgot. So what were other people's highlights and nightmare's from 2010.

  • The 11 minutes or so at Oldham when we were in an automatic spot was really good as were the two last minute equalisers in the league games with Swindon. The minutes from trailing Millwall 0-2 to leading 3-2 were a highlight too.

The long wait to exit the Den was really grim.
  • grim highlights red god
  • [cite]Posted By: nolly[/cite]grim highlights red god

more to the point, the home games against millwall and swindon were in 2009, eagle-eyed fan here
  • Got to be the 10 odd minutes we were going up against oldham and the feeling we could actually do it, something ive not experienced following charlton for a few years
  • Red god, going from 2-0 down to 3-2 up was 2009. The bailey goal was an absolute cracker and worth remembering though.

Losing 4-0 to millwall is a low point as was the penalty miss by Bailey in the play off semis shoot out.

it is maybe because it is so close but the performance against Walsall was a real low point as was the 4-0 stuffing by Brighton.

5-1 peterborough victory was good, 1-0 against Leeds Utd last season was good. Not too many high points really, getting back up to second after looking doomed against Brighton was some kind of achievement.
  • Best 3:

When we were sitting in 2nd on the last day of the season.
Akpo's deflected 86th minuter against Leeds
I'm tempted to say the start of the second leg of the play-off, we were playing some great stuff. Posh result a close fourth.

    Worst 3:

    Nicky Bailey. Over the bar.
    Selling Shelvey.
    Millwall Away

Losing against Exeter gave me a bad feeling of here we go again, League One mid-season mediocrity awaits...

Winning 3-0 away at Swindon finally made up for the Brighton defeat for me, and I felt we had a team at last. I haven't lost faith in this lot yet!

Oh alright, Peterborough had me shouting and jumping around my tiny flat!

Bailey pen miss & Millwall away worst.

Best - Reid at Southend, Akpo v Leeds also Llera last minute v Swindon at home
  • Best - easily the 4-3 win away at Carlisle this season, to travel so far and then to go 3-0 up so comfortably then lose it just as easily to 3-3 late on and then the 92nd minute winner was ecstasy.

Worst - 4-0 loss at Millwall, nothing else comes close.
  • Worst moment - Millwaal away, abject performance, piss take by their fans, locked in for our own safety for over an hour.

Best The friendship and comradeship of fellow charlton fans who have enabled me to see most of the home games this season by their generosity during this extended period without an income, special thanks to King Hill Addick, and although not on CL my mate John and my brother in laws friend Barry.

  • Worst- Swindon PO by a country mile, Milwall was bad but it was March- we still had 2 months of the season to go and even though it was a huge embarssment- Swindon felt like the end of the world as there were no 2nd chances and I honestly felt we would not get a better chance to bounce back. Still wonder how we fucked it up so bad.

Best- As said above, the 11mins at Oldham were good. Not sure if anyone really believed it would last- but we had hope. However when Paul Benson's 2nd goal went in at Carlisle was by far the best. Travelled miles and miles, we had blown a 3 goal lead and everyone thought we had blown it. Been a long time, since i've felt so great after a Charlton game.

  • Best

    Peterborough

    Worst

    Millwall
  • Best: Being rewarded for a long, lonely trip to Peterborough with that amazing win. So glad I went even though my mates pulled out and I had to go by myself.

Worst: The moment Bailey sent that ball over the bar. I fell to my knees with my hands on my head.

    Ultimate: Winning promotion in 2011...
  • Millwall away was horrible.

Swindon penalty defeat I just knew we was going to lose in the shoot out... the days after were horrible as well watching Millwall go up and that night every pub had a mill song go up. Then seeing Palace stay up and then we sold or released most of the squad. Was a horrible few months.

Best Oldham away for a few minutes. Southend last minute. Listening to us beat Peterborough on the radio.
  • Best

    Any match we win

    Worst

Logging on here after a defeat.
  • One of the best was when David Mooney put us 2-0 up against Swindon in the PO second leg.
    Reid's winner v Southend
The third and fourth goals against Peterborough

    Worst: PO penalty defeat
    Walsall last Sunday
  • Worst was millwank away by far.
2nd worst was Play-off loss. It was hard to take but we gave it a good old go!

Best game was Peterborough, one of few games this season where we played well and won.

  • Best...

The performance (not the result) at home to Norwich last season.
The performance and result at Swindon this season.
The much better results in the cups this season.

    Worst...

The lack of real entertainment at home so far this season.
  • Best:

    Wagstaff v Leyton Orient

    Worst:

    Baileys pen miss in PO's
Dicking all over Norwich but losing and feeling that was the best chance of automatic promotion gone
  • Worst - all of it
The best - is yet to come
  • Worst
    Millwall Away
    Walsall Home

    Best
    Waggy Orient away.
    Varney's involvment in imminent takeover.
  • Mine are a little different as the most emotion is at a match and I am only able to go to northern away games, so here they are:

Best - the winning goal at Carlisle this season- it seemed as if we had a proper team that cared and had a bit of skill

Worst - FA Cup - Northwich
  • [cite]Posted By: lancashire lad[/cite]Worst - FA Cup - Northwich

I think you will find that was in 2009.
  • Best: Peterborough away
    Worst: Penalty miss in Playoffs
  • B-Leeds home
    W-Brighton home

    Best

    1. The three last home games of last season, Norwich, leeds and Swindon. All played with a tempo to a game we haven't had for a long time, and as a result of that, played out in atmospheres we haven't had for a long time.

    2. Southend away had it all; good laugh and beers beforehand, vociferous atmosphere, late winner and lift home :-)

    Worst

    1. Millwall away. The most depressed i have ever felt at a football match.

    2. The fact that i've yet to see any of the positive moments that have occured so far this season. Missed Orient away, missed Sheff W at home, missed Peterboro away. Every win i have seen has been an underpar struggle.
  • Couldnt really enjoy southend away as much cos i was in the home bit.

    Best
    1. late winner against Leeds
    2. Baileys late equaliser against swindon away
    3. News of potential takeover

    Worst
    1. Millwall away
    2. Play-off loss
    3. Walsall defeat
