Hi all, I see CAFC left the Valley for a few years in the 1920s and I was just wondering if anybody knows where I could find any photos (if there are any) of the Mount stadium in Catford. Thanks.
Seriously though, we had a very luky escape when we played there. We proposed changing our name to Catford Southend (whose ground it was). But the Football League cam to our rescue, by refusing permission. Otherwise CAFC would have ceased to exist and this site would be called Catford Life!
Not sure about pictures. The most famous photos from that 1923-24 season are of the FA cup tie v Wolves - which had to be switched back to the Valley because the Mount's capacity wasn't large enough.
The park is off Brownhill Road (south circular) and is still there. There's a flat area with a grassy bank at one end and in the bushes there you'll find parts of the terracing. That was in the 90s and i haven't been back since and it might have been landscaped by now.
The closest I've seen is a picture of some workmen builing the ground. I'm pretty sure Richard Redden said he'd never found a picture of Charlton in action at The Mount so I suppose it would be a sort of Addicks holy grail if one turned up.
Cheers guys, I think i'll take the kids over there between x-mas and new year to get them out the house and all that, and i'll see what I can find. So please if you see someone Lurking in the bushes dont panic im not a pervert it will just be me trying to find the old terracing lol.
