Izale Mcleod and Grant Basey

edited December 2010 in General Charlton
Since moving North the River four years ago I have attended a lot more games as a neutral at Barnet , Daggers and Orient.

I have developed a soft spot for the Bees and hope they stay up , community wise they are a smaller version of what Charlton are trying to achieve. I always feel welcomed by the club and they seem to be putting a lot of money into their Training Ground. It feels like football 20 years ago.

Don't worry this is not 'a one that got away thread ' although I was never one of the boo boys on Mcleod, I just don't think it worked out for him here and feel his attitude stunk , but in League 2 yesterday he took his 2 goals well and could have had a hat trick and looked menacing all day . He made the difference because Accrington were the better team.

Grant Basey also played well and is looking a sound League 2 Centre Back ( not left back ),indeed the Bees actually played a Right Back Joe Devera at Left Back so they must see Grant very differently to how he was seen at the Valley.

Grant was the only player who applauded the fans and shook all of his team mates hands pre match . He showed genuine leadership marshalled the defence well and took some good dead ball kicks . In my opinion he looked as though he should be their captain.

Apparently 'the bloke behind me' said he had a hesistant start to his Barnet career but looks a different player since the Charlton games. Again I'm not saying we should resign him but it is good to see him do well with his new club.

  • Nice post - Im Pleased he is doing well, I think league 2 is his correct level. I wouldnt be suprised to see him end the season on 20 goals and can see Barnet making a charge up the league maybe even into the playoffs
  • Always thought Basey looked more like a central defender, and always thought he was captain material if he could nail down a starting position. Glad to hear he's getting on well at Barnet especially after the injury last season and the Aberdeen deal falling through.
  • After McLeods apparent antics at Charlton I won't shed an tears if he slowly sinks down the leagues, but I'm very pleased to hear Grant is doing well. If he works hard at his game he'll play in the Championship one day, I think, but he needed to get somewhere he'd play regularly and then work his way up from there.
