ESPN coverage last night

edited December 2010 in General Charlton
Was more impressed than I expected to be - a lot more down-to-earth than Sky's usual hype. Loved the outdoor studio! The anchor woman was professional, Deano and Pleat were intelligent and knowledgeable guests, and even Dowie wasn't as annoying as a co-commentator as I expected. Good interviews with players and managers too. What did anyone else think?

PS Did anyone else notice the resemblance between David Pleat and the Luton mascot? Would post a photo, but beyond my skills on here...

  • I couldn't hear too much as there were some noisy locals in the pub but it seemed OK to me.

As you say certainly a step down from Sky but bearable.

Not £9 a month bearable though

  • Thought Dowie was actually quite a good co commentator.
  • Thanks, Plaaayer - even got the boater, so I assume it really is meant to be him??

Perhaps we should replace Floyd and Harvey with a Curbs caricature???
  • Pleat looks like Christian Dailly's dad.

    Brilliant!
  • Well Dowie had to be good at something.
  • I was impressed by it all. Makes a change from Sky, shame it will probably be our only game on there haha.

Same here ... he quite surprised me ... has a good knowledge of footballers even at lower levels, and had some good tactical ideas ... mmm, I guess the problem is he cannot convert these ideas to action when he is actually in charge of a team. Bottom line, I still don't particularly like him.

  • I was impressed, first by the anchor-lady, then by Deano and David P, then by the commentators - having sampled the style for a bit of the FC United game on Wednesday. Made a pleasant change from the 'big club' arrogance of Andy Gray.
Will be interesting to see how they handle the Newcastle game ...
Nice to see Parky walking towards the pitchside 'studio' for the after-match comments!

Who was the bloke walking with Parky when he went for his interview? Had club colours on.

Does PP have a body guard?

    Gary Haines.
  • my opinion i thought this was one of the greatest highlights of the game...

im not to sure if its going to work -.-
  • I liked Dowie, was able to complete his sentences for a change without dribbling all over himself.

he'd come straight from work turning over a few banks but didn't have chance to change
  • ESPN is 'free' with Sky Sports on Virgin Media cable TV.

Last night was the first time I'd watched anything but American sports.

They have several more games over the weekend

Including Newcastle v Liverpool, could be a corker.
  • Unfortunately the live Prem games are spoilt by Chris Waddle talking allot of shit!
  • ESPN also shows Bundesliga football. We got the channel with our Virgin media package, we didn't get Sky sports though.

  • I always find David Pleat extremely annoying on any co-commentary he does tbh.
