An Interesting Evening in the Pub

edited December 2010 in General Charlton
Being exiled to Scotland I was in the pub with the usual football daft regulars and the young uns and the old uns divided to pick the best ever Rangers team.As there were a couple of lads whose English team is Liverpool we went for that too.Charlton being my team was next and we finished up with a World XI.To be fair I was the only one present who could name eleven Charlton players! There was much very heated discussion but here we go! I feel there could be the same here!
Rangers 4-4-2.
A. Goram
J.Greig T.Butcher R Gough S.Jardine

I.Durrant M.Laudrop J.Baxter D.Cooper
A.McCoist M.Hately

Liverpool 4-4-2 R.Clemence
P.Neal E.Hughes A.Hansen T.Smith

J.Case G,Souness S.Gerrard T.McDermott

K.Dalglish I Rush

Now the interesting bit, these lads knowledge of Charlton was a bit patchy,I added Charlie Revell as he was our football teacher at Bexleyheath School.Just made me think this is how we are seen from miles away! I know some arnt in their favoured positions and Eddie Firmani was mentioned.

R.Boulder

L.Young R.Rufus P.Chapple S.Minto

C.Revell S.Parker L.Bowyer J.Robinson

D.Hales P.DiCanio

The world XI caused much arguing! It sort of finished like this!!

P.Shilton/A.Goram
P.Maldini Baresi J.Charles R.Carloss

G.Best G.Souness D.Maradonna D.Cooper

M.Van Basten Pele.

Souness was there to put his foot in! I think this will cause a bit of debate!!

Comments

  • Phil Chapple? Must've been a very drunken night in the juicer if he get's in over the likes of Shirtliff!
  • We are snowed in and suffering from cabin fever!!
  • I just left them to get on with it and chucked in old Charlie when they were goosed! Shirtliff was a better bet but they hadnt heard of him!!
  • Got me thinking though did Chapple ever play for a Scottish team?
  • No Sodje's in the Charlton team ?
  • Makes me think though Boulder and Hales are even legends up here!
  • Those long winter evenings must fly by when you're north of the border...
  • Im in a village in deepest Ayrshire with a population of about 1500 ish and theyve heard of some of ours.I could have bent their earholes though!!
  • I love it but I miss London.
  • I couldnt move back the kids leave their bikes lying in the front garden and they are still there in the morning. They go out to play and come back three hours later safe and sound. It would take too much retraining for them to fit in in SE London!

  • Geezers that pished he's having a conversation with himself now!
    ;o)
  • Im just about sensible lol
  • Boulder would come about 4th or 5th I reckon on the list of goalkeeping legends. Phil Chappel Christ you must have been steamin and No Mendonca. I live in Stoke and whenever you mention Charlton here the first name they come out with is Mendonca.
  • You and I and thousands of other Charlton fans know this.Just interesting to see what our North of the border friends have heard of us!
  • Chapple must have a Scottish Granny lol
  • What about Marco Negri?!
  • No Steve Brown !!!!
    shame on you

I mean the World XI of course
