And to show our support for the fifa ideal of spreading the game to as many people as possible the government should make sure only the BBC can show the matches for those two world cups...

    Who cares that we don't matter? We should just be eternally grateful that Papa Blatter regards us, the fans, worthy of his high court.

    For we, the fans of the beautiful game, so deserve this much. We deserve to beg and plead for our national game to be shown so that we, simple poor serfs, might glimpse the glorious holy land through our magic light boxes.

    It'll be a shame if after all fifa's efforts to hold the 2018 & 2020 bids at the same time to supposedly maximize the tv rights if countries like Britain and Spain get their own back by restricting the local commercial value...

    LOL. Have you been living under a rock for the last ten years? The BBC coverage did absolutely nothing to the England bid. The destination of the world cup is fixed well, well before any symbolic 'vote' of FIFA's executive committee. It goes where the money is. The Panorama programme days before the bid would have had as much effect on FIFA's decision as you would in changing the wind direction of a gale by blowing against it.
