What i find strange are the quotes from Varney in it.Hardly heard anything from him in the media since he left us.It's not the quotes that are curious but the fact that the majority of the piece is basically an interview with Curbs. Why would they go to the bother to get quotes from Varney?
Now did Reg just happen to knock on the door while the Guardian hack was at Curb's gaff???

Is he not allowed to go round his mates for a beer then?
Crap source, but the name Bradley Rangell cropped up when we were talking... after a bit of googling, looks like he's tried to buy hull n cardiff, so it could be a possibility?

According to this, he's a "Director at The Citigroup Private Bank's Sports Finance and Advisory program" ( I swear I have heard Citibank mentioned in relation to us and PV before, possibly at the time of the Sainsbury stuff). Would undoubtedly have some rich connections, doubt he's providing the money himself though.....
allez les addoicks... I make you right so my theory on zabeel etc is prob way of the mark...... dan roan mentioned there were about 2/3 bids and reading thorugh this:-
As much as i hate the BBC Dan Roan has constantly said "for good reasons I am unable to say anything but be patient Charlton supporters.
According to the facts as we know it:-
1) Seb Sainsbury tried to buy the club - we turned it down as he couldn't get the money. 2) Dennis Wise's offer didnt go through/pulled out. 3) According to the link above (no offer was made at the time).
Former Leeds United and Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale has denied recent press speculation he is involved in a rival US bid for the Addicks. That bid is being advised by Bradley Rangell, the managing director of Citibank's sports finance unit. Rangell, who has been involved in a number of high-profile takeovers in American sport, has previously made attempts to buy Cardiff City and Hull City.
So when all s done and dusted I am going with this US Bid as potential new owners. No-one knows anything about them from start to finish. They have kept their identity secret. Would this unamed bid be AEG? or Anscwitzz??
It would make sense... multi million pound company.... O2 on our doorstep. They could possibly use the venue for other events such as concerts etc. (although that won't go down with the council).

...........
Maybe...but AEG are currently bidding with Spurs to take over the Olympic Stadium after 2012 so I doubt that AEG/Philip Anschutz would get involved with another football club.

AEG aka Anschutz Entertainment Group are very American. Their corprate HQ is in LA and Philip Anschutz set up MLS, owns some franchises and is part owners of others and has numerous other interests in sport as well as owning several sporting arenas in the UK, US and other places.
If there was anything in this why would somebody who is a billionaire with many links in football and who is undoubtedly extremely well connected in finance be using Peter Varney to front a bid? Especially when he's not the shy and retiring type? Wouldn't he have his own Merchant Bank to advise him and represent him?

I too am struggling to understand why Varney is being quoted in this piece. I can only think that Varney just happened to be in Curb's company when the journalist was obtaining his quotes from Curbs. Which, if true, may mean absolutely nothing at at all. On the other hand.....................
My source, who has a real connection with a family associated with the club, mentioned the word "billionaire". I have no idea if this is Anschutz or one of the other billionaires out there. But this is not a two-penny group of local businessmen.
Even a big player would conceivably like to have someone like PV on board, reassuring to us fans, knows all the faces intimately, and in the short term can field the media. Would also be possibly appointed to a new board.
I think we will all be delighted assuming the due diligence goes well. The PV statement in the SLP is also hugely reassuring as it means that they have already done a kind of "pre" due diligence and are aware of any major 'known" issues.
This proper level of due diligence also indicates a serious player. Can't wait for Christmas!!
