The loan system has become a complete sham. McQuoid goes from Bournemouth to Millwall 'on loan' with a view to a permananent move in the January transfer window. You must know of similar examples of this travesty of a system. The number of loanees moving from premier league sides to lower division clubs is ridiculous and will get worse under the new 25 man squad ruling brought in this year. Premier league clubs are using the lower divisions as a testing ground for young players or as a way to reduce their wage bills by farming out unwanted more experienced players. Teams in the lower leagues finding themselves in trouble or in need of a boost for a promotion push are able to 'loan' players on short term deals and to send the player back as soon as the mission either fails or is accomplished.
This is not the fault of the club borrowing the players, they are adhering to the rules as they now stand. The loan system needs revising otherwise the richer clubs able to afford short term loans and those clubs prepared to risk bankruptcy in a desperate search for success will succeed at the expense of the more thrifty and well run clubs. Sheffield Wednedsay and Cardiff are examples of clubs which owe millions of pounds yet are still able to sign loan players on high wages. The current position is to the long term detriment of smaller clubs when mercenaries appear for a few games and disappear when a better offer materialises. How can fans get to call any club 'My team' when the cast of players changes every few weeks?
