Parky on Elliot, clean sheets etc

“Robbie's playing well at the moment and is in a rich vein of form,” said Parkinson. “He’s just got that bit of confidence. He had been out for a while and came back and was rusty for the defeat at Brentford and was not quite ready.

“Now he’s right up to speed and I think you can see that in his performances. “Players are human beings - they are not like robots that you can throw back in and they pick up the speed straight away.

“It takes time and Robbie’s a good example of that. His form in the last few weeks has shown us all what he is, which is a very good goalkeeper.”

After the 4-0 defeat to Brighton last month, the manager and his coaching staff set about improving the team’s defensive work on the training ground.

“The back four are looking solid but it’s important that we keep it going and don’t take it for granted that we are getting clean sheets,” said Parkinson.

“We must remember how hard we are working to get them and take that into our next couple of games. Any team that is successful is built on a solid base and we’ve been working on that in training and speaking about it a lot to the lads.

“They’ve taken it on board but we have got to be very careful that we don’t rest on our laurels and think we just have to turn up and a clean sheet will happen, because it won’t.

“You get clean sheets through a real team ethic and work ethic, and that’s what we’ve seen in the last few weeks.”
