Four clean sheets in a row now since Brighton and Carlisle, brilliant. You can't lose if you don't concede. No significant momentum looks to have been lost over these couple of cup games and I think we can go to Peterborough on Saturday, confident of shutting them out for 90 minutes.
First off i thought charlton looked very good tonight, very fast tempo , generally pacey side, and the main thing they did tonight was dominate in midfield.
Cracking goal. cracking atmosphere. not much else, can't complain though. bristol city or exeter at home then brentford two legs is the ideal scenario! coyr!

Let's just get through the semi first eh. Anyone at home would be nice.

Excellent passing display first half tonight, fantastic solo goal as well well worth looking out for if sky show it. Now for the moans, Abbott was hugely disappointing and looks a man bereft of confidence, I wish Francis would stop giving the ball away one cost semedo a needless booking which nearly cost us dear as semedo could of easily been sent off 5 mins later. Really pleased I went though our fans seemed in good form tonight, much more relaxed and supportive of team.
Mccormack steady eddie. large you can't help but get ahead of yourself. the whole competition is pointless besides the chance to go to wembley!
in terms of moans, it was no better than barnet, in fact we created less than at barnet but more control, great solo goal, closer to wembley and more boozy = a happy night tonight!
Just got in from work..peed off the missus by coming straight on here for the score and to read the match thread and the comments above. Reads as though we did enough to win without playing as well as we have recently. Two questons though - Is the Doc injured? (due to substitution early in 2nd half), and what were peoples thoughts on the 4-3-3 formation?
Happy I forecast a 1-0 victory, peed off I didnt put any money on it!! Oh well thats life!
I thought it was better than Barnet. It might be the difference that one flash of brilliance makes, but we also passed it around well and although we allowed Southend to attack in the second half, there was never really a fear that we might not make it. I'm not saying it was great, but it was certainly better. If for no other reason than the highlight on Saturday was the ref blowing the final whistle, the highlight tonight was that goal - as Ketman says it's well worth looking out for.
We had more fans and them didnt we? lol! We didnt even give southend a chance to sing! BRILLIANT SUPPORT! And and yeah 1-0, great goal, another clean sheet. good times!
Solid performance tonight. Superb goal from Racon, considering he made a great sliding tackle on the halfway line, to prevent their bloke going down the left side. Stood up and ran 25/30 yards, before putting a screamer in the corner.
Semedo was a lucky lad tonight. Feared the worse after his tackle when on a yellow, but common sense from Mr Hegley was used. However he was rightly replaced for Waggy a few mins later.
Thought we looked good first half, but not so good in the second. Good save from Rob to his right, but the windows in the flats behind the goal were more in danger than our net in the second half.
Abbott looked out of sorts at times tonight. Maybe a confidence thing with him at present.
The 2 sets of toilet rolls being thrown onto the pitch was a bit daft. Was "The Charlton Totty" involved in this?, as i saw her being escorted out the ground midway through the second half.
The young Charlton lads behind the goal seemed to be very local, though mainly when it came to the Blonde St John Ambulance lady walking behind the goal on a couple of occasions, and the "Bluebirds" on the pitch at half time.
Four clean sheets on the spin. Here's hoping for another one this saturday.
Nice home draw please this saturday for the next round from Willie Rushden or the Torquay Tease.
Took the easy option and stayed indoors and watched beauty and the beast with the kids ......
And for the first time ever I didn't feel even a slight pang of guilt about not going to a game when I really could have boooooooooo
Anyway 6 to 5 on us to win with willy hill was a gimme !
4 clean sheets is brilliant and is something to build on and any promotion team needs to be solid from the back, I said we wouldn't get promoted without a decent regular keeper, maybe robbie is turning into one! Fingers crossed :-)
Anyway I'm 40% we win this pathetic thing 25% lose in the final 20% lose in the southern final 15% we go out in the next round
Only 2 games from Wembley... i couldnt give a monkeys what cup it is, after all the crap we been through over the last few years that for me is something to get excited about!!!
And on the back of a nice little run too makes me a very happy man indeed, now just keep it going boys!!!
I dont understand the "this cup is pointless" opinion; it is if you are a Championship side and above. But for league one and two teams, this is our only realistic chance of trip to Wembley for a cup competition so in my mind its hardly pathetic, it's what these leagues are about (apart from getting out of them as quickly as possible) - mind you that's just my opinion. My Southend friends were very surprised with the numbers we took, I thought we were in control for most of the game - always a good away do though.
[cite]Posted By: Ketman[/cite]I wonder how many of the people slating this Cup will buy tickets to the final if we did end up getting there, I'll wager all of them.
Good point! I'll be queuing for wembley tickets if we get there!
of course fans will buy a ticket for the final but i slate the shitty league we're in but still go and watch it
after last nights win who can you take the pee out of or banter with.......... i don't know any brentford or exeter fans or southend fans
Pretty solid display, only two shots on target the whole game. The dominance of the first half by us should have led to more scoring opportunities, that's a bit worrying.
Abbott - looks overweight and for a forward of his height won one header all night, never looked like scoring.
I think we can be thankful that Southend were pretty woeful, but we are through and that's all that matters.

I love your percentages. You need to get some bets on if you think this. 85% Charlton win the next round vs unknown opponents. That's about 1/5 in odds. I reckon you'll get way better odds at any bookies.
Comments
Bristol Rovers at home in the next round please.
Racon, our JPT saviour.
anywho, 'que sera sera...'

Great night though

quality night, nothing seemed to go wrong.
He done ok. Was clearly up for it.
1st half he, Racon & Semedo bossed the game.

Wish our support was always like Southend and Leyton Orient away.
Exeter at home and Brentford final please.
good win last night, gutted I couldn't make it in the end, home tie next please or else Brentford.
Anyone know the odds for all the teams left in it ?
Good point! I'll be queuing for wembley tickets if we get there!
Comfortable 1-0 win
Superb Charlton support
Sublime goal
Professional performance
Never got out of 2nd gear
Negatives:
Southend is short on toilet rolls this morning !
Fear of a long journey in the next round
