The nightmare FA Cup draw would be Wigan away. At least we might have a chance of beating Dover and trying for a 4th round match against a top team...
The money Carlisle and Southampton got was dependent on the attendance at the final. If we were to get to the final, we'd want Huddersfield or Wednesday there too.
That said, the question was about JPT final versus a trip to Old Trafford, and I don't think Man Utd would sell out for a reserves game against us.
[cite]Posted By: Jarman[/cite]F.A Cup away draw for me.
The thought of our first trip to the new Wembley being in the jpt is so negitave . The cup is for sh!t teams who have no chance of getting there otherwise.
We should aim to get there otherwise.
Play offs or F.A Cup are the only way i would want to see us there.
Oh, well thats us then. We're not going to get to the FA Semi Final..
taking finance out of it it's all too painful ..... i mean the sheer shame of being entered into this paintpot competititon is embarassing and then i don't think i could even raise a semi if we were to play one of the big teams , it's all far too raw for me since we split up with the big league and hearing our apologist fans harping on about how crap the premiership is in relation to what ever shit thing we're competing in would wind me up no end...
As Dave's original question did not mention promotion, JPT. As others have said, been there, done that as far as the "big" Premier League clubs are concerned.

I'll get back to you on that after Wales v England in March!
That's the biggest reason for why I renewed, should be a great day!
JPT.
You going down on Gary Davenport's daytrip or stopping somewhere this side of the border? Don't fancy staying in Cardiff so we're currently tossing up between a night in Bristol or a quick there and back job on the coach.
The only important thing is getting promoted, cup runs for a team like us only risk players form a small squad. Daillys smashed cheekbone a case in point. The cups can feck off until we get in the Championship, see Leeds last season, their cup run nearly cost them promotion!!!
1 - Promotion, another season or two and the financial problems will worsen.
2 - A lucrative cup run, a big prem team away and on TV would generate a fair bit of cash, as the club is currently running at a loss that would be very welcome revenue. I presume the budgets were done to take into consideration a first round exit, so this could be very welcome if it happens.
3 - JPT - icing on the cake to success elsewhere, but what does the winning team get out of it? The prize money is minimal and probably goes to the players and the revenue from the final isn't going to pay that many bills.
Yeah would be nice to get a cup run and play a few of the top teams on the way but assuming we are concentrating on the league I see the point that it could be an unecessary distraction. Ive cant think of a lower league team that has had a successful cup run and has been promoted from their division.
I'm in dreamland already with this season's FA Cup run. Yes it's been a roller coaster ride, a fantastic, unimaginable journey - but wow! compared to recent seasons it's nice to actually achieve something in this grandest of competitions.
The FA cup became a bit of a bore if i'm honest when we were in the premiership but now we can go into a draw against any Premiership side as a bit of an underdog and also, instead of fearing drawing Millwall or Palace in case we lost to them, drawing them can only be a bonus, particularly against Millwall and a chance to redress the balance following last year's disaster. This is one of the few up sides of being in league 1 - the cup's (other than the JPT) seem more exciting.

I've just sent Gary a message, my group are crashing at a students place in cardiff, I'm not sure if that's something I want to get involved with!
Would be well up for a day out at the new Wembley personally regardless of which tournament it's in.
Yes, playing in the JPT isn't the greatest thing but the FACT is we're not Leeds United.
We weren't in the semi-finals of the Champions League less than a decade ago, we haven't won the First Division ever, let alone in the last 20 years.
We're a second tier side who had a few years punching above our weight in the top tier, are suffering a couple more below our natural level in the third tier but hopefully we''ll be back in the second tier next season.
Have to say, I have zero interest in seeing us play one of the big boys - as other's have said, I've still not completely got some of the mullerings we got at the back end of the premiership years out of my system and I can happily live without another one. The only thing to be said for it would be the potential pay-day it might offer the club.
I'd love to see Charlton at the new Wembley though so the JPT has a certain attraction to it, that's assuming we don't have to go there through the play-offs, in which case I can't say I'd be too fussed about the JPT either.
But afer that I would love to see us play at Wemberley, have been to two Conference play off finals there already and as long as the lower tier is full there is a good atmosphere, it is a great on the club England tier when you are only paying £40 for the privalege...

Wouldn't mind a crack at West Ham at home though.

Promotion is obviously our priority but that wasn't an option in the original post.

Wembley, JPT Final.
Haven't been to the New Wembley yet, am waiting to see CAFC there !

Promotion is the be-all and end-all this season.
