Could be bad news about Solly.

If Basey plays, will give him a clap. Decent player, did not really let the side down ever. Saw the Stevenage goals against Barnet, sure it was Basey trying to close down and he looked like he is carrying extra weight again.

He is probably too good for League 2 but could easily be involved in a relegation to the BSP, may find it hard to find another league club straight after that.
  • How much were we paying him if he could buy one boat, let alone more than one boat?!
[cite]Posted By: News Shopper[/cite] The Charlton manager said: “I think it is a bit harsh to say he was making big demands, it was just the fact he had taken the option to go up there, then came in to collect his boats and said he had been offered a three-year contract.

“Now once that happened, and with Kelly Youga’s injury, I had to move quickly and we tied up the Matty Fry deal almost overnight.

“That is how quickly things happen in football. Once we had brought Matty in, the door was closed for Grant.”
  • Needs to get a new agent imho.

“But he was still training with us and then he got the chance to go up to Aberdeen.

“They offered him a three-year contract, so I just said to him if they are offering that security I would suggest you go and take it because there certainly won’t be that level of contract here."

How can he turn down a three year deal??
  • He didn't, they withdrew it.
  • [cite]Posted By: Plaaayer[/cite]He didn't, they withdrew it.

because they needed to get players out on loan to pay for it and couldn't.
  • Interesting how Parky describes the way things need to happen fast in football ...... once Basey collected his "boats" and went up to Aberrrdinnn, he moved straightaway to sign Fry as replacement.
  • I sometimes wonder where the news shopper get their information from,as i said before grant was not at gillingham to impress anybody he was training with them pending his move to aberdeen
  • Haha good spot.

You know how much footballers earn these days, so maybe he did come back to collect his boats (and his yachts).
  • pace wise, Waggy should tear him apart...

From the press day at the club with Parky, every Thursday afternoon before a match.

    Today is Thursday. ;o)
  • Everyone reading as Boats.

Anyone consider it to be a typo? Collecting his Boots? Boobs more likely but still
  • oh his boots. Why didn't I think of that. Boats did seem a bit strange.

I thought that was obvious ......

......which is why I wrote the above in post #7

    ;o)
  • So if the Gills offered him a contract, he'd have still signed for Barnet? I'm sure he didn't want to sign for Gills. Who would? But if he or his agent has any brain you maximise your options, and hopefully hold a bit of leverage between clubs.

Darn shame that Basey left IMO, as he's got a great left foot that can reliably assist. Having said that he looked best as a central player, and without adding urgency to his play I'm not sure if he was better than we had. He'll have to add a more competitive nature if he wants to succeed at Barnet. If he does he has the talent to be a champ player, if he doesn't it's all down to footballing character and maybe a bit of bad luck. There's plenty of better players than him who didn't succeed, such as Jamie Stuart who proved he just didn't have the correct attitude.

Yeah I saw him down the bottom end of Greenwich park, lobbing crisp packets, cans of tango and lolly sticks out of his boats.
He was giving it large that he could hire TWO boats for the hour.

    tsk

    Footballers eh?

Personally I though the article showed Parky to be an considerate man, looking out for his players even when they are off.
And a great wheeler dealer to get Fry in at short notice just to reduce the wage bill
  • i suspect this was a case of Basey trying to leverage a better deal out of Charlton by telling them of the Aberdeen deal - which as I recall was verbally promised by the manager but not followed up on by their board. Unfortunately for him it backfired but I don't blame him for trying. Shame because I really rated him.
  • Poor old Grant. Where is he going to sail his boats now he is no longer based in Greenwich? I ask you. Barnet. It's like the back of beyond. Bet he can't even find a pond over there that has not been filled in for a council estate.

Facts or what you've been told?

The unacceptable and unreported underbelly that is the reality of ex-third division football players' lives
  • I liked Grant.

    Shame.

    Take care mate.

    Ahem ...

... we do have ponds in Hertfordshire, some of which are natural.

Council estates in Barnet? Yes, probably ... but the majority of gaffs are quite well-to-do.

You might want to get out a little more from whichever leafy suburb you live in.
  • Maybe he could lend us one of his boats so we can all go to Southend
  • Praised by Parky again in post match comments.

Was excellent today I though at CB. Strong, dominant and competitive. The making of a good CB perhaps? too good for Barnet imho.
  • I liked Grant when he was with us...always tried his best, which couldn't be said about others!

I though he had a solid game at centre half today....looked comfortable. Good luck to him.
  • Center Half is his natural position not sure why keeped playing him at left back.
  • Bet he was glad he wasn't playing in the Aberdeen back line today. Lost 9-0 to Celtic.

    On the OS:
"I thought Grant played very well," noted Phil. "He was aggressive and we knew it would be a big game for him. He played it like it was a cup final and credit to him, he had a really good game."

Notice Parky was careful not to say that Basey was their 'best player' .......?

He seems to have learned his lesson.

Evidently he didn't want to risk another misconduct charge from the FA.

    ;o)
  • He had Abbott in his pocket. (Not that that was too hard as Abbott was puffing and blowing 30 secs after coming on & seemed incapable of running or jumping).
