Parky may be forgiven for wishing this Saturday’s game was against our next league opponents Peterborough rather than bottom of the football league Barnet after three straight wins on the trot.
It is a shame but it seems that the FA Cup has lost some of its spark in recent years (across all teams, not just because we’re rubbish in it) but it should not be underestimated the much needed revenue it could bring in to the club should we scrape through to the third round and get a tie at one of the big Premier League clubs.
That being said we can’t lose sight that our primary objective is to get out of the league and if Parkinson believes that means resting players in certain positions then so be it. It has been discussed on this site in quite some depth what we should do for the next two cup games in terms of the team:

It’s nigh on impossible to predict what team will run out at Underhill on Saturday but I expect just three changes to the team which played 90 minutes against Swindon. Fortune in for Doc, McCormack in for Semedo and Abbott in for Anyinsah. Whether or not Martin and Fry are cup-tied seems a little unknown but I’m sure we’ll find out in due course.
Winning breeds confidence, goalscoring breeds confidence and clean sheets breed confidence and come Saturday I think we’ll get all three in the form of another 3-0 away win. And then we will draw Dartford in Round 2 who will have a heroic 2-1 victory over Port Vale.
Come on you reds.

The rare luxury of being confident - 2 - 0 to us.
Its worth remembering that Barnet beat us at Underhill in a pre-season friendly in August. However, i'm hoping that stands us in good stead. One of the reasons you get cup upsets is because a lot of players can't adapt to playing in lesser quality, tighter grounds and pitches.
Our side that day was:
Elliot, Solly, Jackson (Mambo 73), Dailly, Doherty, Wagstaff, Semedo, McCormack (Stavinrou 19, Racon 46), Reid (Davisson 88), Bauza, Sodje (Thorvaldsson 73).
So realistically, 7 or 8 out of side on Saturday will already have played there.
I don't tihnk we should treat it as a formality at all. As we saw in the league cup at Shrewsbury, anyone in League 2 on their day can turn over anyone in League 1. But some reason i have a bit of a relaxed confidence going into this.
Ignore the importance of the league, we as fans desperately need a cup run at some stage. I have a sneaky feeling we're going to get it this season.
Someone once said the cup is a great leveller. I'm sure also we would have said the same to Carlisle fans after Brighton.
The most important thing, whatever side we put out, is attitude. We've got to approach the game in the right manner, and not get frustrated if the early spell doesn't work for us.
Barnet 0-2 addicks.
Must admit I didn't really keep up with the other thread about team selection for the two cup games. But I'm not sure about the suggestion that we rest Joe A. He's on fire at the moment and getting fitter. Swindon was his first full 90 mins, I think, and more game time rather than rest may be what he needs to get his strength/fitness fully up to speed?
Parky will be the best judge and so we shall await his decision with interest...
2-0 to the addicks
2-0 to the addicks
barnet are indeed very crap and whatever side we put out should be too strong for them. barnet's priority is survival in the league and i doubt they would be looking for any sort of a cup run.
0-3 another clean sheet with opposition limited to hopeful long range efforts once again.
Parky will put out a weakened side and we will fail to score, losing 1-0 to a flukey Doherty own-goal in the 95th minute on a heavy pitch. Wagstaff is injured in a needless tackle when he is brought on in the 80th to try and secure a late win.
Barnet's season is transformed by the unlikely win but Parky insists that promotion is the priority before the run of defeats that costs him his job..
Just joking- 1-0 addicks.
I'd be more worried if they were playing for us!
A hungry 5 - 0.
