Last 3 games - discuss

edited November 2010 in General Charlton
I forget the stats but something like 60% of us gave Parky 3 games or less after the Brighton debacle, which I think was a pretty assessment at the time.

To his credit Parky has bought himself a reprieve and perhaps more, Parky being sucessfull is of course the better option for the club, until now however the formula seemed to have been eluding him.

Fry and Anyinsah seem to be pivotal in this recovery

Also Wagstaff, Benson and Jackson have all stepped up their game a level as it seems have the centre mid pairing of Semdo and Racon.

He seems to have sorted out the attack, and now the defence (last 2 games).

Has the squad finally gelled?

  • Yes, they have gelled.

But Benno's late goal at Carlisle was priceless - without that, Parky could have been gone by now...and who knows what kind of mess we would be in?

(help I'm sinking, there's tumblweed everywhere, where's my clique when I need him..)
  • 7 away goals in two games have really impressed me and at two clubs where we havent always done too well of late. The thing that encourages me is the cover we now have....Solly for Francis, Fortune & Llera for Doc & Daily, Mac for Semedo, Martin for Racon and of course Abbott and Sodje for Benson and Anyinsah...plus others who can do a job. If we can totally nail the tactics, then I think we will go far. We have to find that blend of getting the tactics right and of course consistency. I feel happier now that I did before and during the Brighton game, but the next 6 games could really shape our destiny, one way or another.
  • He has certainly turned things around. Maybe Reid getting injured has been a blessing in disguise. Replaced by a different style of footballer in Jackson which has helped our midfield dominate matches rather than it relying on patches of brilliance from Reid or Wagstaff/Martin
  • Unless the fixtures change (weather, cup runs, etc), if the current run continues, the team against which which we equal the club record of 12 consecutive league wins will be...

    ... Brighton.

    Which will be nice.
  • Still think we have a few problems to sort out. Carlisle was another 45 min performance as could be argued was Sheffield Wednesday. Was not at Swindon so was pleasantly surprised as expected us to lose. Think a few people on here are treating the lows to low & the highs too high.

The Squad we have should be in the play-offs, we are currently in the play-off's still a long long way to go. The only games that we have won all season at home (Yes we are in November) have been 1-0 that is a huge worry for me over a 46 game season. Still probably best to sit back & enjoy the winning run as it will be over soon, it is Charlton we are talking about after all.
  • In a League where only one team have showed any real consistency, three wins on the trot have to be a big leap forward. We seem to be finding a settled team, plus a better understanding of the way to get the best out of individuals. I get the feeling that the players are making an increasing contribution towards the way we play, and I'm sure that we are benefiting from old heads like Dailly and Doherty with their excellent experience. There is no doubt that the Brighton game, and the subsequent reaction from supporters has forced everyone to take a good look at our situation, and the result has been very positive. I saw the Swindon Manager this morning talking about being bullied out of the game. We need Parky to make sure that we keep our foot on the pedal now because the opportunity is there to hit that other top spot.
