  • 5,000 doesn't seem that many goals over 105 years. (less than 50 a season) Is that because a lot less games were played in the early years?

or we've always had pony strikers

EDIT: We're only looking at 90 years for league goals

Didn't start playing League football until 1921. And there was a period in the late 30s/early 40s which deprived us of some games.
  • ah yea, good point. I just looked and we only twice scored 50 goals in a season of the premier league (51 in 2003/2004 and 50 in 2000/2001)
  • Can't remember where I said it, but some people, were commenting on how the players will be quite excited to see who gets the 5000th goal.

I said I bet they didn't even know.

    Johnnie Jackson said :-

"I wasn't aware of the milestone, so that's a nice achievement for me personally, because I'll always be in the club's record books, but it was important for the team to score first. It got us a foothold in the game and put us on top."
  • Who will score the 6,000th?

Hopefully my great grandson or something :)

Johnnie Jackson's great grandson, Johnnie Jackson the 4th.
  • Can't say for the 6,000th except that we can expect it in about 2028, maybe a bit earlier if we are luckier.

    Here's some previous milestones:
1,000th George Tadman with the first goal in a brace against Everton in a 2-2 draw at Goodison, April 1937.
2,000th Johnny Summers with the first goal in a hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Bristol City at Ashton Gate, October 1958.
3,000th Bob Curtis with a penalty in a 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers at The Valley, January 1974.
4,000th Carl Leaburn with the second goal in a 2-0 win at "home" to Southend at Upton Park, February 1992.
