Swindon away 2/11/2010 - Pre-match views and poll

edited November 2010 in General Charlton
This game seems to have slipped under the radar for many but three important league points are at stake.

Following the Brighton debacle Parky and the team have responded with two wins against promotion rivals while in both cases playing some good football, albeit for less than the full 90 minutes at Carlisle.

The question remains if this is a genuine revival or just a couple of wins from a consistently inconsistent side.

Any defeat and the fear is that fragile confidence, from players and fans, will be shattered yet a win could take the team into 2nd place. Others will point to Plymouth's rapid drop into the relegation zone despite being only 6 points behind the Addicks.

It seems likely that Parkinson would want to select the same starting line up but Anyinsah limped off v Wednesday and maybe a doubt. With Martin suspended there is no other pacey forward to partner the much improved Benson.

The midfield selects itself with Kyel Reid back in training but not yet considered fit enough to start. Will PP risk a sub place for the winger who we know can be a game changer off the bench?

In defence Jon Fortune seems unlucky to still not be getting a start but with Doc and Dailly having kept a clean sheet it would be brave to split them up. However Austin is a different type of striker so the coaching staff may want to replicate what they did v Notts Co ie putting a more mobile CH (in that case Fry) up against him.

Our conquerors from the play-offs are missing a whole midfield and have not yet replicated their late season form. If this season's form is anything to go by expect goals. The other Robins have conceded 24 (2nd highest in the league) and scored 23 (only 1 less that Brighton) and drew 3 -3 at the weekend.

Momentum is an important element of success. I'm going for an battling 3 - 1 away win.

  • Two wins in two against one win in six. For that reason, I am going for a Charlton win. And, away from the glare of the expectant but fickle Valley crowd, I am going for a 3-0.

And, if the traffic on the M4 sorts itself out at some time today (it's dreadful right now) I might be making my first away appearance in a while.
  • Good summary H

If Joe plays I can see a win, if not then a battling draw as I can't see us scoring many goals, so come on Joe!
  • Swindon win and talk about Parky's motivating and tactics starts again.

Much better chance of a result if Anyinsah is fit.

I noticed the OS suggested Davisson could be on the bench with Martin banned and Reid not ready.
  • good write up - especially the point about Austin, I'd worry with Doc and Dailly up against him.

Play Fortune, other than that I fancy us to win this
  • should be an exciting game. i've made it more exciting by piling on the 11/5 odds betfair were giving us, not to mention the wee bit on us to win 3-1 at a staggering 30-1. I'm convinced they will score, but i'm also convinced it could be a cracking night for all of us who make it, and we'd love to go to Peterborough next week after 3 consecutive league victories. I'd stick with the same starting line-up, though i understand the reservations about Austins pace. I wouldn't like to see Fry moved into the centre as i've been impressed with him at LB, think he brings a lot of composure to the position (especially when you consider his age).

Benson, a wagstaff screamer, and a goal from the bench for us.

Really hope not pericard for swindon.

    1-3
  • Draw.

No mention of Anyinsah being unfit. He stayed on the bench after he was subbed Saturday.

As for Davisson on the bench, that line seems to be rolled out every other week. Wont happen.
  • I predict 1-1.

Would say keep the same line up as Saturday but wouldn't be surprised to see a 4-5-1 with Ansinyah dropped or moved to the wing and clog the midfield with Jackson or McCormack in the middle with Semedo and Racon. Would like to see Fortune in for Doherty as well as Swindon have some pace.

If Anyinsah is injured, I could see a 4-5-1 formation being used with McCormack coming in to partner Semedo with Racon in a slightly advanced role.

I have been really critical of Racon this season but Saturday he showed exactly what he can do and it was a totally committed performance. I hope he kicks on now and starts getting some assists / goals.

I would not have said this 2 weeks ago but I think we might just win this one: Benson will score!

    COYR!!!!!

Anyinsah wasn't running properly before he was subbed. May well be fine now.

Jenkinson, Tuna, Stavrinou and Mambo have all made the bench when there have been a few injuries. You might be right but it wouldn't surprise me.

Perhaps more likely to see Solly on the bench, though we'd have no real option at right or left midfield to bring on.

Can't see Parky starting 4-5-1, if didn't after the Brighton game away to Carlisle why would he after 2 wins.

  • 2 previous predictions of Charlton defeats did the trick so had to go for a Swindon win. Looking forward to see if the balance we saw on Saturday is a permanent fixture or a fluke!
  • I can see Austin running riot if we have Doc and Dailly paired up , they are scoring freely but poor at the back , whereas we are the opposite .
Hope we play 2 up front and exploit their weaknesses , it could be 5-5
  • Parky quote on SLP site saying Reid could come on for 20 minutes. Just hope we haven't rushed him back.
  • I would be more worried about a pacy player running riot - Doc and Dailly right pair to face Austin.
  • anyone know how many going ?
  • I know Doc got several important blocks in on Saturday but everytim he challenged for a ball in the air I held my breath. It seemed to go behind him as often as in front. If it happens again we could be giving goals away against a pacy forward.
  • I'm all over the draw on this one.

Just waiting for the Ticket Office to return from the pub.
  • After saturdays win against a top 6 side, albeit by just 1 goal, I've voted for an addicks win as I believe the team have found thier 'gel' at last and have the confidence to push on from Carlise and Wednesday. The Benson/Anyinsah partnership is important and we need both of them to be firing on all cylinders, and if Waggy can reproduce the form from Saturday then we have goals in us. Concern is Austin (he has scored 7 already this season), and Daily/Doc need to be on their toes for 90 minutes +. I would consider putting Fry alongside Daily as he is quicker, but cant see Parky changing a defence that shut out on Saturday.
I'm working tonight and wont be able to listen, so I wont know the outcome 'till I get back home around midnight. Just hoping for a good performance and seeing an addicks win on SSN.
Good luck to all that are going - hope you have an enjoyable night out.
  • If the midfield turns up again we have a chance of extracting something from this match. If they don't Swindon will win.

Splinters in the bum for me sitting on the fence. Draw.

  • i'd be more than happy with a draw or anything more being a bonus.

But have sneaky suspision we'll be comin home with 3 more points - win all the way, another nervouse one at that but still 3 points none the less
  • a draw but if Anyinsah plays, a win.
  • there will be no less than 6 goals in this game and we'll get 5

    Benson x2
    Anyinsah
    Wagstaff
    Perkins off the bench
  • Really really hope we make it 3 wins on the spin! COYR!!! going for a 1-2 charlton. such important 3 points.
  • Feels like being a traitor after all the positives above but I just get the feeling our bubble will burst and after going a goal down won`t be able to respond. Sorry chaps. 2 - 0
  • ht ft?
  • With an away following as big as we'll have what more inspiration could the team want
The squad is good enough to reach the play offs and win lose or draw that's where I fully expect to end up come the end of the season
with the worse keeper in the league clean sheets will only arrive if he has nothing to do like saturday so 2-2 for me tonight

  • Swindon to get a late late equaliser 2-2
