One of the best in the series for being thought provoking. Especially liked the thought that for once, seriously poor people in Africa and Asia can afford a cheap solar powered lamp, which is changing their lives, whilst for the rich and their enormous energy needs, solar power is too expensive. 2 million lives lost to kerosene poisoning? Never knew that.

And kids in Africa who make the lamps adapted the design so you can use them to charge up a mobile phone. Good choice for last object.
  • Interesting read, hadn't even heard about the product before
  • I'd love to hear Pete and Dud discussing this.

"A solar powered lamp, how does that work"?
"It's a lamp that gets its power from sunshine"
"So it works when it's sunny?"
    "Yes"
    "And when it goes dark..?"
    "I suppose it goes dark"
