He got done out on the wing by Vassell for the only goal. Pretty much the same as Llera getting done in similar positions...CB's will get done when left totally exposed. He also had a bit of a mare against Walsall in the cup (when his Portuguese mate scored) but all in all, Costa did really well for us. He was a sort of Paul Miller type, pretty weak in the air, slow but a great blocker, good on the ball, positionally astute and had total self-belief which rubbed off on others.

According to Jimmy Seed's book he was only ever going to be a short term signing as he was in the UK on business. Apparently the main difficulty was getting him to The Valley before Arsenal got hold of him!
His goals saved us from relegation though that season apparently.
Talk of the hatrick reminds me of Jim Melrose (I know he played about 50 games for us and doesnt meet the thread criteria), but his fastest goal made an impact!

Then he came back and scored a hat trick against us for West Ham in a crazy 4-4 draw!
