Short cheap break

edited October 2010 in Not Sports Related
As loathe as I am to ask you selection of degenerates and scumbags, do any of you have any good recommendations for a weekend away that is not going to bankrupt me.

My missus is getting in my earhole about going somewhere for a weekend and if any of you have a good idea let me know.

  • UK or abroad?
  • Carlisle ;)
  • Good one
  • Try York. Lovely city . Cheap as chips and only 2 hours on the train.
  • Ludlow - fab food, great scenery, good beer, castle, foodie shops, pretty walled mediaevel town and a weekend will be plenty of time to see the whole place. Stay in The Feathers Hotel - google it and you'll see what I mean. Not ridiculously pricey last time I was there, but that was a while ago.
  • Go to Bath and stay in Bath Lodge Hotel. Its a castle its really lovely and not to dear either. Lots for the wife to do in bath too. You will score some brownie points going there.
  • Verona is very nice and inexpensive unlike some Italian cities.
  • Ghent in Belgium. Not far and a really nice place. Cost of hotels and restaurants / bars no more expensive than here.
  • Did a short break in Istanbul earlier this year and it was cheaper than a break in the UK- Worth a thought.

Fabulous city although October isn't the best month to go..

  • This site may be worth a look- romantic break stuff. Depends what you like doing and whether or not you have a car. Derbyshire is glorious for autumn walking, but for towns, both Bath and York are good shouts.
