Arsenal want to snap up England youth starlet Diego Poyet – son of former Tottenham and Chelsea legend Gus.
The Gunners are hot on the trail of Charlton teenage midfielder Poyet, who is in the England under-16 squad despite his dad being a proud Uruguayan.
Diego was born in Spain but raised in England while Gus, now boss at Brighton, played for Spurs and Chelsea after a spell with Real Zaragoza.
The young midfielder, who still has the option of playing for another country, is hot property.
Poyet junior has been with Charlton but they could lose him to the Gunners who are keen to recruit – and, ironically, bring in more ‘domestic’ players. Arsenal hope their reputation for bringing through youngsters will be more important than any old club allegiances.
Norwich keeper Angus Gunn was another surprise name in the squad for Friday night’s Victory Shield defeat to Wales.
Angus’s dad Bryan, the former Norwich boss, played for Scotland but his son has chosen to play for Kenny Swain’s team instead.
