CAFC v SWFC - Assistance Required - Wednesday fan in peace!

edited October 2010 in General Charlton
Hi fellas

I am a Wednesday fan and come in peace!

Just after a bit of info regarding our upcoming game, which I am considering coming to.

I am staying in a hotel in Hertford for reasons aside form football on the Saturday night and am considering coming to the game prior to going to the hotel. I could do with being at the hotel no later than 6.30pm.

I have little experience of travel times around London and the outskirts so do you think it'd be possible to get away and up to Hertford for that time? What about if I were to leave the ground on 80 mins or so?

Also, is there any parking nearby the ground or is this a big pain in the backside?

Cheers for your assistance.

  • I'd say it would take you about 1hr 30mins mate. I'd leave about 10 mins before the end though to be sure.
  • Beef,

I live very close to Hertford and can talk you through the best travel options.

Whisper me and we can have a chat by phone or e-mail.

  • It will take you around 2 hours to get to Hertford from Charlton by train, if you are driving, we tend to get back to Hertford around 7ish, obviously leaving after the final whistle, to get back for 6.30, you would have to leave early.
  • Parking's not too bad. If you wait until full-time things snarl up so if you leave early it should be comfortably do-able. Depending one where you're going it could take maybe an hour, but whenever you cross the thames you're open to a delay. So I wouldn't bet my life on it, but all things being equal you should make it with time to spare.
  • If you leave early you will miss our winning 2 goals too so you'll be happy !
  • Cheers for the help everyone.

Can anyone recommend a particular car park that's close enough to the ground and easy to get away from, bearing in mind I'll be leaving a few minutes ahead and don't want to be boxed in?

    Much appreciated.
  • Theres one opposite the macro's on Busby way tell them you need to leave sharpish and the put you at the front
  • Bloody hell, I reckon you'd be doing well to get from Charlton to Hertford in 90 minutes in Saturday football traffic.....

Going through London would be a nightmare and you can never be sure of the M25 no matter what time of day.

This poor bloke might not get back to his hotel till well past his intended time!

Have to agree with the above.
You will struggle to make it back within 90 minutes mate.

  • Coming from Herts and having commuted from Hertford to Charlton in the past I would say it is doable by car (If you leave early and traffic permits) and impossible by train. I find the traffic is usually not to bad coming home from the game but gets blocked up around the ground/shops if you leave when everybody else does which could add 20 minutes or so to your journey back.
  • Charlton to Hertford:

Through Blackwall Tunnel(if it is open that weekend) stay on A12 to Redbridge roundabout, take A406 to the A10, then follow to Hertford!

Would be better off parking in the roads just before the flyover! A 5 minute walk from the ground!

    Thank you so much!
  • Thanks everyone for the help.

I've just realised that the hotel is not in Hertford itself but in a place called Newgate Street Village, which is a little closer to London and as such should shave ten minutes or so off the travel time.

By the looks of it I reckon if I leave on 80-85 minutes, park nearby with easy access to escape, get my foot down and rely on a little luck I ought to be back for 6:30 with time to spare.

    Cheers!

take a look at this map. See Victoria way on there... park off one of the roads on there as then when you head up to the woolwich road (down when you're actually driving) you turn left and you will be close to the blackwall tunnell. Bernard Ashley drive is a good one. 5 mins from the Valley.
  • You can often park in Macro - they sometimes ask to see your card on entering but not often. I'm guessing you will be using Sat Nav.
  • The only way to hertford is
