After Suthers’ thank you up at the top of the board I would like to extend the gratitude to every single one of you who has helped in one way or another in raising an incredible amount of money for the Charlton Upbeats programme.
I was at the fantastic dinner last night and we watched a couple of amazing videos. The opportunities that the programme offers to those that don’t get to do the ‘normal’ things that you and I do is out of this world. I was lucky enough to meet a couple of the Upbeats last night and the sheer joy on their faces spoke volumes, they shook my hand, were polite and it is obvious that these activities play such an important role in their lives.
The evening was great, it was nice to see some old faces such as Curbs, Peter Varney, Keith Peacock and Martin Simons as well as Damon Hill – the turnout was testament to the hard work of the organisers and shows how highly regarded the Upbeats are at the club and with all those associated with it.
I would however like to single out one guest who was an absolute gentleman and a credit to our club – Scott Wagstaff. Myself and Curb_it sat next to Scott for the evening and he was so polite, so forthcoming and just a nice guy. He was the only member of the current squad to come and he seemed genuinely interested to be there, so thanks Scott.
Over £15,000 was raised at the auction last night with Curbs bidding £4,000 for a couple of boxes at Ascot and I think Peter Varney spent over a grand on some firearms training…
With my wine-fuelled bid for a day down at the training ground I think Charlton Life’s overall fundraising total for the Upbeats is close to topping the £5,000 mark and that is simply a great effort.
You have all made a great difference to a lot of people’s lives and should be very proud of what you’ve achieved. Thank you.
There may be future events coming up in the future and if you get the chance to go please do.
Cheers
WSS

Any news on Scott's injury?
Well done the upbeats!!
So you was the leak at Brentford!!
Was announced last night that Martin Simons and his wife are going to organise a quiz night early next year at the Valley to raise some more money.
CL Quiz team for the night? Enough anoraks and know-alls on here : - ) I'd be up for it
Sorry that was meant to be a whisper to the clique, invite only.
should defo have the prize handover in a boozer soon and celebrate.
Event was excellently organised, the screens all along were a great idea, even us in the cheap seats somewhere near Maze Hill were as a part of it as those in the middle.
Had a really lovely table of fellow prize winners, so thanks to wwtone, No1inSouthLondon, H Addick, Plaaayer and CharltonKeston for your excellent company.
Some excellent prizes in the auction were matched by some very generous individuals, so hopefully the event was as much a financial success as it was an event success.
Finally,
Steve Sutherland was very complimentary of this site and its members over the microphone which drew applause from the room, and it made me feel incredibly proud. There is a fair chance it was due to the efforts of the members on here hitting redial on the telephones that won the Upbeats the funding last year in the first place, and without it there probably wouldn't be this scheme.
I roughly calculated that in just over three years, the members of this site through the appeals and events we have organised or supported have directly contributed just shy of £48,000 for Demelza, Meningitus UK and the Upbeats.
There are literally thousands of football sites and forums similar to this around the world, but you won't find very many who have shown the committment to putting them to such good use.
To everyone of you who has donated prizes, helped organise or raise awareness of our appeals, or simply donated a fiver, thank you so so much.
Here's to topping the £50k mark in 2011 !
Well done you and everyone else
I had such a good night and yes i think we should be organising teams for the quiz night next February.
Who are the two ladies other than Mrs AFKA?
haha, I think the lady standing is the winner Heather?
And waited... till no one could wait any longer and all went home! pah. I think later on when he asked if i wanted a picture i told him he had missed his chance.

Wagstaff was talking about training and saying how Semi was a bit full on in training.
Took a little min for me but not sure why i found it funny that they call Semedo - Semi.
Either cos he's built like a semi-detached house or.... no, let's not go there.
