Owls look at Sodje

edited October 2010 in General Charlton
Sheffield Wednesday have taken former Leeds defender Sam Sodje on trial as Alan Irvine looks to bolster his defensive options.

  • We've got them soon. Nailed on to score a header from a corner.
  • "We've swapped our Sodjes, We've swapped our Sodjes"
  • neither cut it do they
  • What you on about nolly, Sam is a decent CB I rate him over Doc
  • another defender who cant stay on his feet and gives fouls away and gets sent off, nice guy though
  • Sodje over doc
  • Sodje's knees are knackered though as most people agreed at end of last season. Not worth the inevitable hassle and time on sidelines.
  • Sodje is probably a better defender than Docherty but we can't afford to have someone crocked and on the sidelines - we already have our share of those.
  • Sodje over Doc? how about no? Sodje made to many mistakes last year...

  • docherty at norwich was one of there best players...but so far this season im struggling to see why?????

Because he's playing in a not so good team.......simples.
  • They can have Sodje, firmly believe we have the better deal with Dailly, Doc and Fortune. Would not swap any of them for Sodje who despite being a good character and a decent defender, is a bit of a liability both in terms of red cards, injuries and school boy errors.
  • Has Docherty made a mistake yet? I thought he was our best player at Brentford and hasn't put a foot wrong in any of the other games I've been to this season.
  • With the standard of refereeing so far, Sam would be on two reds already.
  • S.Sodje is a good defender at this level. And if healthy, he can play at The Championship level.
"If healthy" being a key for him.
I'd take Jon Fortune over him at this time.
  • Sam Sodje better than Doherty?! Doherty might be slow, but at least he has positional awareness and is unlikely to get 2 or 3 red cards a season. Would take Doc every time ahead of Sodje.

Surely then, if we are a worse team than Norwich, as a defender Doherty would be required more, and stand out? He is poor, everyone knows he's slow, but noones mentioned his heading, often fails to clear the box (Oldham's goal), or misjudges the flight ( Exeter's pen, Plymouth's 1st)
  • Sodje is a decent defender and will score goals at this level, he has his moment's of madness which will cost you a few times and also his knees always play up so I don't think you can get more than 2 or 3 games in a row from him.
  • sodgje away at leeds was immense. too many mistakes in other games cost us tho.

  • I think some are being a bit harsh on Doc. He is slow- we all know that but his positional play is good and he has been playing with different partners. Made the equaliser last week and I have no fears about him being in the side.
  • Sodje is a very good first ball centre back, at least at League 1 level. He'll do well there if he can stay fit. Would probably still be with us if he wasn't a suspect fitness wise.
  • I agree completely, Exiled.
