Question for referees

Serious question, where do you get your red/yellow cards from? Do they sell them in general sports shops or do you need to go to a specialist outlet?

A decent (old-fashioned?) sports shop will have them, but you can get them on-line more or less anywhere.

Of course, you can get away with a Corn Flakes box and a felt-tip pen. Undetectable over 10 metres

Surely there should be some restrictions on selling this stuff? Don't want just anybody pretending to be a ref... no hang on, that maybe explains some of the jokers we've had officiating at the Valley this season?

Who said that Off_it is pretending to be a ref?

He may just want to introduce a little 'structure' into his home life.

Anyone can buy it, the same as anyone can buy replica team kit. But strangely you need more than just the kit to actually get into the ground and play in the match.

I must apologise to Off-it - I didn't mean to imply he would prance around pretending to be a ref!

You could've fooled me, particularly after our last two home games!

Cheers folks. Just didn't realise there were specialist refereeing websites - different world! Have ordered some from HT's link (Cheers!)

By the way, they're for my little un - he's getting massively into everything football and is currently "using" one of Dave Rudd's creations (above) to book me with every time I put a reducer on him in the garden. This would make his day - and at a fiver for a wallet, pad and two cards what father wouldn't do that for him?

Gotta make the most of it now though - he's gonna get fa off me when the child benefit goes! ;o)

You're going to encourage your child to be a ref? Do you really hate him that much!!!

No, but he's currently using some homemade cards to "book" anyone for anything around the house - not turning over to CBeebies, getting in late from working, pissing on the toilet seat, that sort of thing - so I thought if I got him some proper cards I could treat him like a proper ref and scream abuse in his face and call him a **** at every opportunity. That should snap him out of it - whilst at the same time teaching him how to conduct oneself properly at a football match. Call it a lesson in Life.

A well thought out and logical approach to parenting. If only more people structured their children's education with as much dedication.

This is a top class approach.

But the 'pissing on the toilet seat' infringement worries me, Off_it.

You could find yourself getting banned from the toilet, or sent to the bottom of the garden for a three-piss ban.

Also, don't you need to get the house kitted out with CCTV so that you can draw on video evidence in the event of a dispute?

The three-piss ban is definitely a worry Dave, I cannot lie. However, it's only a booking offence so I would need to do it twice in one day to get my marching orders - so hopefully the second time even I would think to lift the seat.

To be honest I'm more worried about the "unshiftable log down the pan" offence - that's an instant red, a 2 dump ban and a summons to the committee to justify my movments. Don't think I could cope.

If both feet are off the ground, straight red.

Using video evidence is against FA policy!

Keep your lad away from the bedroom, Off_it.

You might get done for 'bringing the game into disrepute'.

I've seen them on sale in a wallet very cheap at my local Sports Direct - £4

Laughing out loud at this thread, quality stuff!

If you take you top off and run around the house after a particularity spectacular dump is this a yellow card offence?

What do you have to do to get sent for 'an early bath'?

I tend to get all my stuff from A&H. A referee friend of mine helps run it so if I can bung some custom his way then all the best.

I'll have to ask him HT, but I fear the answer will be a yellow for the dump "if it smells bad" - bit of a gimmee there - and another for the excessive celebration, so that's me off.

Actually, you've given me an idea there. Maybe I should order two sets - that way I could brandish my own red card to him and send him for an early bath when he refuses to go up for his early bath?

That site is great - they even have reviews of the products. Have a look at this one :

    Brilliant!

But don't get too 'card happy' too soon or you'll make a rod for your own back. Use a bit of common sense if he refuses to wash behind his ears once in a while.

Just have a quiet word ... oh ...

    ...in his ear ...

    ...eeeuurgh.
