"JOE Anyinsah became only the fourth player in Charlton history to score after making his debut as a substitute when he netted the winner against Notts County on Saturday."

4th player ever to score for Charlton? I doubt that somehow. It should read, Joe Anyinsah became the 4th player in Chartlon History to score on his debut.

I just get annoyed at small things like this :)

I'm not sure what your point is to be honest.

Anyinsah is only the 4th player in Charlton history to score after making his debut AS A SUBSTITUTE which is what the article says. There are plenty of players in Charlton's history who have scored on their debut IN THE STARTING X1.
  • The war in Afganistan is quite annoying too!

    Agree Len.

There have been 70 débutante scorers for Charlton including Super Joe.

Both Fry and Anyinsah have scored when debuting off the bench.

    Who are the other two?
  • I don't think there is anything particularly wrong with the sentence. It's a little clunky I guess but nothing more than that, but having decided to go with the stat there are not many ways the writer can present the information.
  • Thanks kigelia. Given that I wrote the sentence - the communications department sends out NIBS (news in brief) to all of its local newspapers every Monday afternoon - I'm happy to take 'a little clunky' as a compliment ...

Marcus Bent and Jay Bothroyd are the other two - see the separate thread on http://www.charltonlife.com/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=36802&page=1#Item_0
