  • “There’s always exceptions and we’ll see if this lad (Dunk) can be one.” , says Mr Parkinson.

Reading the article, it sounds like all the Charlton management like Dunky.
  • "and although Parky accepts there is a big gap between Charlton and Bromley, it isn’t always an impossible one to bridge."

It's only about 8 miles but I think PP is right. That would be a big old bridge.
  • Without knowing anything about Dunk, it goes to show how fickle football can be, if you're playing for England u18's and probably imagining that that's it, you're off and running, and are now playing at Bromley..
  • Harrison Dunk. What a great name.
  • We got Chris Dickson from Dulwich Hamlet so anything is possible.

Imagine if he was the next Charlie Austin, one can dream. Ah a defender I see, why did I imagine he would be a striker?
  • Well local teams playing in the Kent league a few years ago were awash with ex academy lads from Charlton and Millwall, and so forth. In fact there were a couple who got to play for the national side. @ under 16.

There seems to be a gulf at 16 to say 19 for many players who at best end up at Welling, Ebbsfleet, and there like ( nothing wrong with that) and never progress. I cannot believe it is down to the standard of football or fitness, attitude.

There seems to be an attitude that playing at non league does not really count!. Were there not lads who got into the Chelsea icon /Inter Milan series that were local, in fact did not one win!. It cannot be all the fault of the players.

Is it coaching, or lack of opportunity at clubs, prepared to give a player a decent run of games!. I am not saying I know the answer, but the issues need to be addressed, perhaps there needs to be a rule that teams outside the prem have to have 3 registered players under 18 in there 14 man selection!

I thought increasing the subs bench to 7 might have been a good chance to bring in something like that. Especially with squads in the Prem now limited to 25 senior players.

Wasn't sure about 7 subs in the Football League when it came in a year ago, but it has meant more often than not we have a young player or two on the bench. In the right situation it then can give them a chance they wouldn't normally get. We just weren't winning convincingly often enough to be able to do that.
  • That is why it has to be a league rule, mandatory, Scoham.

I appreciate that making prem clubs do this might be an unfair thing to do, certainly at first!
But we have to have an initiative to bring on young players, for both the national game and for the future of football as the national game, in introducing gifted young players into the game at a level where they get both experience and support. You only have to look at the examples of Walcott, Rodwell, we find it difficult to get a regular start in the first team, and they are seen as two of the best!

I would also have a surcharge on all player transfers over million pounds that the clubs have to pay a percentage towards youth development, and coaching education. Hopefully the smaller clubs will benefit by a structured and financed body that can encourage clubs with younger players.

I do not mean that you rush footballers on, quite the opposite a scheme like this will give the clubs and players time to develop the skills, not a couple of games then rejected!

Scored a cracking goal for 10 man Bromley on Saturday. Then went off injured leaving Bromley with 9. Drew 2 - 2 at Dartford.

Goal is at 6.45 mins. The player he nips in front of to take the ball is Charlton's Ben Davisson who came off the bench to make his Bromley debut.

Saw the crowd there was nearly 2k, i don't know what Dartford usually get but that's very impressive for that level.
  • think they had something like 2,700 for Ebbsfleet a few weeks back
  • Was at his game on saturday. His goal was exceptionally. however he was given a bit of a runaround at times by the Dartford winger. Quite a way off division 1 at moment I would think not sure how old he is so could make it. He did get a bad injury and was stretchered off at the end. Looked like he'd turned over on his ankle.

crowd was just over 1,800 - good crowd had 1,200 i think for the previous game. Added spice of local derby (bromley took a couple of hundred), league leaders and also tend to get a few more when charlton away ( and probably west ham)

How old is davissison - he only looked about 14! Didn't get into the game but it must have been difficult as he wasn't on for long, bromley went down to 10 men almost straight away and the game started to get a little heated.
  • Davisson is 18, 19 during the season.
  • Incredible attendances at Dartford, any reason for them?

    Allot of people turning up.
  • 900 Bromley fans there

Highly unlikely. Just been looking at it and Dartford always get well over 1k anyway. Bromley have only got 900 once for a HOME game so i doubt they'd take 900 away.

Well supported since they came back to the town. After having donkey's years in exile it's a real boost. Especially as they are doing well. With the ground and facilities they have got they are able to attract decent players and everything seems to be ticking along nicely. Hardcore of support as well, think they are regularly taking 300-350 away as well.

Think they could be in the conference in the next couple of years.

They have always been well supported. Pretty sure their average home gate at Watling St was higher than Maidstone Utd (who were in the league and sharing with them).

Still got 300-400 whislt they were on their tour of grounds.

If you wander round Dartford their home games are pretty well publicised. Always posters in shop windows and offers for kids.
  • There is no way there were 900 Bromley fans there on Saturday - 300 tops I'd say. The Darts have been very well supported since they came home - averaging over 1500 so far this season, miles better than anyone else in the league. Good atmosphere, lovely ground, and proper football played on the deck not hoofed up to big lumps. Recommend it to anyone who lives in the area and doesn't have a Charlton game to go to.

Dunk had a fairly quiet game, but his goal was class - solo effort and belting right foot finish. Davisson was unlucky to come on just before Bromley had a player sent off, he hardly got a touch. He is a bit tiny though...
  • It was a joke!
  • Henry, your humour is sadly lost on some of the youngsters on this site. It must be a generation thing!! LOL.
  • Ah sorry! Nice to be called a youngster though :-)
