How long before the accusations of racism that they always trot out whenever they're found to be corrupt/cheating?

  • Where's the Mod Squad?

Come on Admin, get your act together .....surely you'll not going to allow Leroy to get away scot-free with posting the wrong category........????

I'd go trainspotting instead of telling tales out of school, but we've got no railway lines near my village.

    ;o)
  • Balls. Schoolboy error.
  • They don't do themselves any favours do they?
  • [cite]Posted By: Friend Or Defoe[/cite]Speaking of racism...

Well you have to give credit to the bloke for the best excuse going. Denying the banner was racist and claiming that in Russia 'to get a banana' means 'to fail a test somewhere'. Ha ha ha course it does!!
And Russia doesn't have a racism problem? Really?!! Is that why Zenit never sign any black players because their fans won't allow it.
  • They're going to get slaughtered when they go back home. There's no getting out of this.

This is pathetic, they'd be better off admitting it than claiming a set up and then being found to be liars as well.

Amir's 2nd no ball was mid over on the morning he ripped our batsman apart. The captain is filmed going over and having a word with him, but no field placings were changed then Amir runs up and puts his foot about a yard over the line. Are we really expected to believe that in a spell where he was tearing us apart, his captain needed a word with him, and then he ran up and put his foot over the line by a yard accidentally. He's a brilliant bowler and no bowler is going to put their foot that far over without being told to.
  • I watched a Champions League game from Genoa the other day, Sampdoria vs Werder Bremen - most of the Samp fans/ultras behind the goal, were bare-chested (like some of those Russian fans in the picture) - a very bizarre sight when they were all jumping around after scoring. Justin Fashanu would have approved if you know what i mean.
  • Usual Pakistan action when accused of somthing in cricket always a conspiracy against them. Pakistan need the game more than the game needs them.
  • Would it surprise anyone else if they found out that not one Rupee was bet on the outcome of those "no balls"?

  • wow that guy must be good then you know the guy in the NoTW video counting out the cash to radomly guess 3 days before the match when 3 no balls would occur !! I can see now how he made all that money beting----all the millions that he has---its the fact that he has a GIFT---a gift to predict random acts----------all he needs to start this gift off is a hotel room--- a table-----------------and a f**Kin big pile of cash !!!!!

Im sure we will find out in a few days that the £150,000 he (and the players) were about to trouser was all going to be given to the Parkistan flood appeal ------and those
bad racist bigots have stopped the noble Parkistan players from doing this !!!! mind you then again they could just be cheating, lying scum who clearly dont give a rats arse about the suffering in their own country!!!.
  • It's worth bearing in mind that the NoTW is a hate filled Murdoch rag that does get stories wrong and has a record of bugging and phone-tapping to secure some of their exclusives. But corruption is something that only foreigners do. Andy Colson who was editor at the NoTW during the phone-tapping scandal never admitted any guilt and somewhat implausibly denied all knowledge that journalists under his control were paying private detectives to bug the phones of members of the royal family and others (even though those expenses were signed off), but anyway he's now David Cameron's PR man, so that's ok. Who says crime doesn't pay?
  • The three Pakistan cricketers at the centre of match-fixing allegations have been suspended from playing cricket after being charged under the anti-corruption code of the sport's governing body.

The announcement by the International Cricket Council (ICC) came as Pakistan test captain Salman Butt and fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer prepared to be questioned on Friday over the allegations by detectives from Scotland Yard.

The three men have insisted they are innocent but have been charged with "various offences" under Article 2 of the ICC's Anti-Corruption Code relating to alleged irregular behaviour during, and in relation to, the fourth Test between England and Pakistan at Lord's last month.

The three have been "provisionally suspended pending a decision on those charges", the ICC said.

ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said: "We will not tolerate corruption in cricket - simple as that. We must be decisive with such matters and if proven, these offences carry serious penalties up to a life ban.

"The ICC will do everything possible to keep such conduct out of the game and we will stop at nothing to protect the sport's integrity. While we believe the problem is not widespread, we must always be vigilant."

The charges mean the sportsmen are "immediately barred from participating in all cricket and related activities until the case has been concluded".

They have a right to contest the provisional suspension and have 14 days from receipt of the charge to indicate whether they want to defend themselves before an independent Anti-Corruption Tribunal.

The ICC said: "Any player ultimately found to be guilty of committing an offence under the code would be subject to the sanctions described in Article 6 of the code. In this case, the alleged offences, if proved, would involve the imposition of a ban."

Mr Lorgat added: "It is important, however, that we do not pre-judge the guilt of these three players. That is for the independent tribunal alone to decide."

There are no spot markets for "no balls" (not even with the Asian underworld bookies) and even if there were you wouldn't be able to get the sort of amount being talked about on.

The whole episode was about "control" and the indivdual in question proving that he had the Pakistani players in his back pocket. Earning £150K doing that would have been a decent pay day and if the matter had progressed then there probably would have been proper "action" on markets such as "session runs".

All of which would explain quite how the Pakistan Team's performances lack any consistency.
  • In a way the NoTW screwed up with this story.

The issue of Asif and Amir bowling no-balls under orders is a bit like nicking the Kray twins for speeding, if the NoTW hack had developed the contact with the fixer then potentially he could have lifted the lid on a much larger story. Rumours about the Pakistani team throwing matches have circulated for years and occasionally when one gets caught and banned the PCB have tended to announce that they have taken action, when they've merely treated one of the symptoms, but ignored the underlying problem. The Pakistani team this summer were at times were a shambles - dropped catches, missed stumpings, curious field placings, batsmen getting out to irresponsible shots, or running themselves out, strange and inconsistent captaincy decisons, players being selected who shouldn't have been in the team etc (eg Kamran Akmal playing in three Tests despite being the worst wicket-keeper that I've seen in Test cricket, strangely he got back in to the team after his replacement kept well and nearly scored a century on debut, but allegedly then got injured). As it is we are left with half a story and the juicy stuff may well never see the light of day.

    2nd Test Pakistan 1st Inns:

12-3 off 14.2 overs with just the one boundary – “Anderson to Salman Butt, FOUR, good placement, Butt simply opened the face and guided that one down into the ground and through the gap between gully and point and it ran away for the first boundary of the match”

Not sure the “sellers” would have been too happy with Butt’s placement.
  • so what your saying is that its Murdock and the NoTW that are to blame ? and those poor cricketers that have been "tourtured" are in fact squeaky clean--- they didnt take a red cent , they had no knowledge that they were going to bowl no balls and they in fact should be knighted for services to the red wedge world for exposing the evil Murdock !!

f**k me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! your right though i mean cant be true its not in the Guardian

Lol well said Goonerhater. Having done a bit of work for NOTW myself it annoys me when people have this view that their staff are a pack of evil liars and that their reporters aren't fit to lick the boots of The Times' reporters, for example. I think a lot of people would be suprised.
  • Onerof the interesting things I heard about this today, which does not absolve the Pakistani players, assuming they are guilty but puts a bit of background on the affair.

India (my cultural background) have brought great wealth to the world of cricket through the IPL, just look how much Flintoff and Peterson were getting last year. Not all players are selected for it and therefore not all players have benefitted from it, however according to the report, becasue of the positical situation between India and Pakistan ALL Pakistan players are excluded from consideration for the IPL and therefore untold wealth.

the same applies to thousands of other players across all cricket nations, so it does not give a reason to cheat but it does put a background on the motivations behind it.

BTW Leroy 20 hours and still no accusation of racism by the "Dirty STINKING cheats", with the exception of the commissioner accusing India of imposing a mandatory suspension, after the players had agreed to a voluntary one - or is that what you meant?

Wot? India? I'm talking about Pakistan here - not India!
  • or maybe they know they cant play their usual race card on this one-- who would they say are racists ? the Brits who have just given £40 million to the flood relief charity ?

And more is needed from the international community. they will be able to say a fair amount against Britain and USA and the West as and when they like and still receive aid for the simple reason that the west need to keep the current regime in power to keep out the Taliban, control the groups on the Afghan bordrr and prevent nuclear arms getting into the hands of muslim extremists. If you think that some stupid racist remark from the head of Pakistan cricket or their Governments representative in their embassy over here will over ride that then you really do not understand poltics - left, right or centre.
  • Yes and the people of the Uk gave £40 million --- f**k all to do with politics right -- left or otherwise.

Ah! With you now! In my defence, I am half-way to pissed already (Friday off work, yay!)

Don't think that's a racism accusation - that's about par for the course between India and Pakistan!
