Daily a doubt for Exeter, Elliot in contention - Parky quotes

edited September 2010 in General Charlton
Parky on the OS

"We've got a problem with Christian Dailly, who's got a crack in his eye socket from Tuesday's game. He's seeing a specialist and we're waiting to hear the verdict.

"We're not sure of the seriousness of it yet, we're waiting for the scan to come back."

On Robbie Elliott:

"Robbie trained on Tuesday and trained again on Thursday," stated Parkinson. "He looked OK on Thursday so we'll see how he is on Friday. My thoughts are that he'll be back in contention.

"He's had this problem before and it's something we're trying to get to the bottom of. It is a slight concern for us but it doesn't normally keep him out for too long. This one has been slightly more complicated but we're working hard to make sure it doesn't happen again."

"Everyone else is fine. It was a tough game on Tuesday. But I think we've got good competition for the squad now. A few players came in and did well and it enables me to go and pick a team that I feel can go and do a job at Exeter and get us the points. There's nothing better in a squad to have genuine competition and I feel we've got that."

On Racon:

"He's a good player, he's a good character and that goal will do his confidence the world of good," mused Parkinson. "But I know he's capable of it; in training he's a good striker of the ball with both feet."

On Exeter:

"It will be a contrast to Tuesday's game where Dagenham played a very direct style," Parkinson said. "Exeter are more of a football team who can change their system during a game which is something we'll have to be prepared for."

Guess we all heard the sickening crunch, so not surprised by this. Poor old Dailly, took guts to carry on in the way he did

Parky's quotes say to me that Racon will probably start on Saturday, I expect him and Semedo to play centre mid.

These are the type of injuries that were common in pre- car seat belts days. The bony structure of the eye socket is dense in parts but in other parts it is very thin, so it will depend where the fracture is and this in turn will determine the prognosis. In motor car accidents, there can be all sorts of damage including damage to the optic nerve, but I can't see the force between clashing heads being as great as that involving motor cars. Best scenario, hairline crack, self healing and wait for the swelling and bruising to dissipate. Worst scenario - don't go there!

Daillys injury is why we do not need pony cup games IMHO.

Does this mean we might see Fortune in Dailly's place?

    Is Fortune fit enough? dunno.

IMO Dailly shouldn't be allowed to play on Saturday, for the sake of his own well being.
If it is only a minor hairline crack, then it'll be soonest mended without the risk of further impact.

Best lose Dailly for a couple of matches now, rather than play him and risk losing him for half a season.

New aticle just popped up on the OS. Parky says Fortune and Ansiyah could be playing for reserves next Tuesday but won't be considered before that. It'll be Mambo then I would have thought.

I'm worried about Robbie this season , I don't think Worner is ready for a season as Number one and we need another Keeper in .Ben Alnwick did not make the Spurs 25.Could Andy Marshall come in ?

In terms of Dailly , Llera frightens me alongside the Doc ( in terms of pace and both being first ball centre backs )so what about Fry at CB and Fortune on the Bench ?

FRY IS A CENTRE-HALF. HE WOULD GET THE NOD BEFORE MAMBO BUT AFTER LLERA IMO.

I believe we heard you, Large!

Doc is certain to play, Llera is the next in line ...... but they are both similar 1st ball CBs with no pace between them.

Now we've blooded Fry in the 1st team, he may very well be the best option to compliment Doc.
Fry has quick feet, a good tidying up approach and very highly regarded at West Ham. He does lack 1st team game experience though.

Would be harsh on Llera, but Parky has to pick his best team.

Will be like Large said, Dailly and Doherty first choice, Llera back up, then Fry and finally Mambo. Then you have the option of Semedo or someone out of position.

Of course once Fortune is fit enough he could jump ahead of Llera.

once Forch is fit he could jump ahead of The Doc imo. Bit more pace, could compliment Dailly well.

The Doc/Llera combination was fine at Orient. Again, I'm not too worried about this 1st ball malarky. As long as Llera has someone to organise him he's fine. That's why he was alright alongside Doc at Orient and Dailly for most of last season, but was much poorer alongside Mambo at Shrewsbury and Sodje last season.

After we'd gone down to 10 men at Orient though, our defence dug in across the 18 yard line.
And midfield in a line of 4 manned the sandbags 10 yards in front of them.

That way neither of the CBs were exposed to pace, as Orient couldn't find a way to penetrate and get behind them.
All they had to do was soak up the aerial barrage, which they did to great effect.

Can't imagine Parky will want to play that way against Exeter, unless circumstances dictate again.

Remember how Doc and Dailly were exposed to pace for the 1st goal at Huddersfield?
Well that's the risk we take playing Doc and Llera together, plus they're two similar CBs who will instinctively go for the first ball together at the same time.
