Jon Macken

edited August 2010 in General Charlton
just signed a one year deal with Wallsal - aged 32.

could have been the one - always scores goals and would complement the strkers we already have,

oh well. In Parky we trust !!!!!!!!!!!

  • ...and has two left feet, is slower than my Mum, has scored 33 goals in 8 seasons and is injury-prone.

    Next.
  • A Target man, pretty sure we are looking for more or a channel runner with genuine pace.

People don't seem too disappointed by his signings so far.
  • Too slow, we need a bit of pace injecting into our squad of strikers.

Never been a massive fan of Macken either tbh and he's not been that prolific since he left Preston - only something like 30 goals in 8 years.
  • Nah! Hes not prolific - only something like 30 goals in 8 years. And hes's slower than Leroys mum!!

All of which is what Golfie would have been saying if we had signed him. The grass is always greener and all that.

    plus he's ex-palace.

    Indeed and another wide player.
  • [cite]Posted By: golfaddick[/cite] always scores goals

Are you on a wind up?
Let's look at his league record since leaving Preston EIGHT years ago.

    Man City - 27 starts - 7 goals
    Palace - 14 starts - 2 goals
    Ipswich - 13 starts - 3 goals
    Derby - 4 starts - no goals
    Barnsley - 92 starts - 21 goals

    Total - 150 starts and 33 goals.

He might be ok at this level but he doesn't 'always' score goals. Plus he's ex-Palace. No thanks.

I agree. plus he has two left feet.
  • He'll score more goals than Sodje in this league
  • Kyel Reid (well, 2 games on loan...), Chris Powell and many others over the years were ex-Palace, does that really matter?

So would Leroy's Mum, but that doesn't automatically mean we should give her a deal.

If they're good then no it doesn't matter, but if they're sh*t like Macken then obviously yes! ;-)

No, not really but it's a good stick to beat players with : - )

I've have a £10 bet, winnings to Demelza, with you that Akpo has a better league games played to goals scored ratio this season that Mackan
  • Akpo has 6 goals in 11 starts for us. Not bad going really.
  • [cite]Posted By: golfaddick[/cite]He'll score more goals than Sodje in this league

But not Abbott and Martin, so thanks but no thanks
  • [cite]Posted By: Ketman[/cite]A Target man, pretty sure we are looking for more or a channel runner with genuine pace.

I didn't think Benson was that kind of player though?
  • Macken is a decent player, holds it up well and involves others. Scored some good goals against us too.

    But we already have Abbott.

Who knows, he might have been on PPs shopping list, maybe he turned us down, maybe Macken didn't fancy moving down south again after so long up north (where he comes from) and Walsall is doable from where he lives now.

What's silly is rather than just saying "Good player, could have done a job" it has to turn into an attack on Parky.

7 goals, actually ........unless you're not crediting him obviously scoring the winner against Leeds with that power header, which deflected off their defender?
  • Wasn't it Macken who Pearce left on the bench for Man City and instead put David James up front?
  • Decent signing for this level but I think we got the better player in Abbott who is younger and has a better goalscoring record albeit in League 1. No tears shed over Macken until he scores against us.

one of my best nights that was .....

smacking the wall ala Henry hill in goodfellas at 4am only for the girlfiend to be going"what the hell is going on down there!!"

and me responding "WERE ONE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

    akpo has scored
3 goals in his 11 starts
and 4 goals in his 18 sub appearances

    akpo has scored
3 goals in his 11 starts

So 7 goals then in 11 full games (not counting the times he's been subbed off) and then the rougly equivelent of 5/6 full games as a sub.

So 7 goals in 16/17 games or just under every other game.

And a few winners or equalisers in there as well. Leeds, Yeovil (when down to ten men) Southend, Bournemouth.

All in League 1 of course before you say it.
  • you can make stats say what you want them to say. End of the day though he isn't a striker. Not saying I'd have wanted Macken though.

Sorry, mate ...... they are WRONG! lol

7 goals says he is. You might not think he is a very good one but that's opinion. Facts are he puts the ball in the net on a fairly regular basis.

Parky on the OS today talking about our attackong threat
    :
"What we've got at the moment is Lee Martin, Kyel Reid, Scott Wagstaff, Pawel Abbott and Akpo Sodje, and they are all exciting players.

Good job you're a better judge of a player than Parky, Large.

    ;o)

He isnt gonna trun round and say

''"What we've got at the moment is Lee Martin, Kyel Reid, Scott Wagstaff, Pawel Abbott and they are all exciting players. Akpo Sodje is a bit shit mind you.''
  • if we are to have a serious push at promotion i believe akpo's appearances will have to be limited to covering short term injuries and appearing off the bench
imo he isn't good enough to be a regular starter for genuine promtion contenders and looking at parkys team selection last friday he believes the same too
