She was a deaf and blind girl who learnt to read and speak. The story was made into a film "The Miracle Worker".
She went onto become a writer and political activist. She campaigned for civil rights and for birth control and was a member of the American Socialist party and the Wobblies (IWW).

Well you learn something new every day!
Did she invent cardigans as well then? :-)
Der, no. Didn't they teach you youngsters anything at School.
The Cardigan was invented by Lord Cardigan who wanted a warm woollen garment he could put on and take off without messing up his hair.
Apart from being a fashion leader he was a soldier (he lead the charge of the light Brigade despite thinking his orders from Lord Lucan were wrong) and an MP.

Villagers in Spain (and most other European townships) were kicking balls between posts in the middle ages but we still claim we invented it.
Philipp Reis was making phone calls in Germany years before Bell and Elisha Gray's patent documents where delivered an hour before Bells but processed after.
And Tesla is well known to have been then true inventor of the Radio, or at least the equipment which made it possible.
