[cite]Posted By: heavenSE7[/cite]The sooner Capello realises that Rooney doesn't fit into a system that works for England the better. I love Wayne Rooney, I think its a great player. But the form hes been playing for England is dire. I noticed the sarcastic clap as he went off too.
Soon as we played one up top with two young, quick, skillful wide players we looked much more threatening. Gave Gerrad the role he plays best in behind the front man. Just thought that formation looked like it suited the future of our England side.
Rooney played up front on his own for a lot of last season for United. Agree that he's been woeful for England for the last few games. But he should be able to play that role though, no question.

sorry, but isn't that how we started the game with Rooney on his own and Johnson and Walcott wide with Gerrard tucked in behind ?
Rooney needs to sort his attitude out as a paid up England member I think he needs to pull his bloody socks up, rightly not forgiven or forgotten for his childish outburst at the World Cup and hasn't scored for a year of England internationals now. Not good enough and not even on the same wavelength as David Villa, Luis Fabiano etc.

Agree with that to an extent, but Rooney isn't being supplied by the calibre of player that David Villa and Luis Fabiano are.
Went last nighh with my son and and few others, more to see the stadium then the game and to fulfil a promise to the boy when he was upset that he wouldn't get to see Wembley after the Swindon game.
Thought England played OK generally but lacked a cutting edge until we went behind. Stadium really is magnificient. Journey back, less so.

Fair point dabos but I'd forgive his goalscoring record a lot more in light of this lack of service if he chased and harried like he did in a United shirt, and didn't come out with childish rubbish as well. If he isn't getting the balls that he wants, the least he can do is show himself and track back, particularly after giving the ball away. Two things that he felt were beneath him in South Africa.

Agreed. Then it's the age old argument - is it the manager's fault or the player's fault that he doesn't do that for England? Or both?

You only have to study Rooney's demeanour during the National Anthem to appreciate what playing for his country means to him.
The same can also be said of quite a few others.
Players chosen for England should be bursting with pride and be prepared to give everything for their nation's shirt.
How many of that lot last night, and even more so the shower in South Africa masquerading as our representatives, have that sort of commitment to England?
[cite]Posted By: KBslittlesis[/cite]Gerrard started playing when Lumpolard was off the field!!! Really???
How comes we all know this but managers just don't get it???
Did Gerrard do much else apart from score two (good) goals and keep giving the ball away to the opposition?
This is the thing about Gerrard's entire career for me. On his day he is unbelievable, but far too often for my liking he goes around diving and passing the ball off the field - ie. not playing very well! If only he could turn these great 'one-off' performances into a prolonged spell of brilliance. He may have done that a bit in the mid-noughties and the year they finished second, but he's been nowhere near as consistent as Lampard over the last 10 years (I'm referring more to club form here).
A few wonder goals doesn't make you one of the best midfielders in the world, something which Gerrard has somehow been classed as.
[cite]Posted By: Chunes[/cite]I think they do, they just can't deal with the media/FA backlash of dropping such a high profile player. Ridiculous, stupid, and a big part of the reason why we'll never win anything.
Yep. Aragones took some stick in Spain for dropping Raul - especially from the Madrid media. He essentially replaced him with David Villa. Look how that turned out.
Took the family last night - got ripped off on t'internet over parking - place doesn't seem to exist, so getting my money back
Ran out of:
Diet coke
Fanta
Coffee
Maltesers
Cheeseburgers
At half time!
Very impressive stadium though, top notch. My missus doesn't like heights and we were up in the gods behind the goal so she couldn't really watch the game!
Gerrard's goal were quality - his footwork for the second was quality.
From up above you see the movement off the ball and Gibbs played very well in his half, Ashley Young was incisive, Zamorra impressed me (didn't think I'd say that), Rooney still looks a little bit lost. Barry is SO slow, Lampard tidy but we need somebody much quicker protecting the back 4.
Cashley was good first half, JT looks slow, Jagielka strong, Dawson looked raw and at mistake for the "goal", Glenn Johnson good going forward but he'll never be good defensively. Joe Hart solid and looked in control - he just needs to be playing for Man City now ....
Adam Johnson was tidy, I'd like to see him run at players more. Theo went past players for fun but he needs to do it more quickly and have some final ball.
Gibbs was the standout overall - we all know Gerrard can do it when he is played central and allowed to get into the box, but Gibbs for a young boy playing his first international game on the back of half a season with Arsenal I think was very good. I wonder if he could come central and play on the left - it would mean losing JT which is a good option should Rio get fit again and Jagielka also grow into international football ....

As for Gerrard, he's delivered at Champions league and Premiership enough times, he had an off season last year, but so did the whole Liverpool team
Lampard will be 35 and 15 stone when the next major tournament comes around.
Build a side around Hart, nonce Terry, Ashley Cole, Johnson, Gerrard, Rooney and we might make round 2 in Poland.
We have some good young midfielders in this country, give them a go now rather than watching Lapmard and Barry plodding along.
