Where to sit? Some help needed

edited August 2010 in General Charlton
I'm bringing my 5 year old nephew to his first Charlton game v Oldham and just wondered where best to sit. Was going to book NSJ but heard it's a bit lively up there. Want him to experience a decent atmosphere though with some singing and chanting. is it a bad idea to sit in this part of the ground? His dad and grandad will also be with us

So why are you bringing him to the Valley then? ;-)

North upper would be best for atmosphere but be aware of some colourful language.
  • Cheers Chris - funnily enough they live in Sidcup.

We sit towards the front of north upper block H and it's not too bad there.
  • I'm out of touch - where's the "family enclosure" these days? That would be as good a place as any. However, "colourful" chants can be heard from anywhere in the ground, if you're worried about language.

    North east quadrant.

i would recommend the east stand, but the north end ... like H or G. that way you'll be able to join in with the singing and chanting from the north, but the bad language is at a minimum.
  • Thanks folks. I've gone for the NSJ, row PP.

    In for a penny!
  • I'm planning on "enjoying" the experience in all the stands this season. I can only get to about half the games so have foregone a season ticket & have decided to move around each time.

Match 1 was 3/4 of the way up NWD. Good view.
Match 2 (Oldham), I'm thinking about Upper North.

I may have to change my user name....!
  • Does he swear...?
  • Arrange for his 1st game to be away at Orient but don't bother going and just watch it on TV instead.

You've picked the worst possible place for a five year old. Hope he's used to extreme language.
  • Really Beds?

Is it hard to get moved once you've paid for the tickets?
  • Yeah valley11 not a good choice mate, definitely try the m block north upper if you can change
  • just phone the ticket office, tell them you don't want to have to explain to the boy's parents why he's started calling everyone c@#ts and w@#!ers. They should swap them for you.
  • It's hardly going to be a sell out, Valley 11.
There's no Gestapo to force you to sit in the seats you've bought.

If your group are uncomfortable where you're sitting, there will no doubt be spare seats in the North Upper towards the quadrants - so you can just up sticks and move.
  • You cant just move to the quadrants as its a different entrance. From where i was sittin gin the North West on Saturday the North Upper looked pretty much sold out.

As i said on another thread, I like the North West as you dont have to listent to too much bollocks but can enjoy the north upper atmosphere and its good for kids.

What an odd place to pick.

I'm usually towards the back of North Upper H, but if I was bringing a nephew, I'd probably go to the North West.
  • Well Saturday was an experience!

Good atmosphere where we sat but as people warned, not right for a 5 year old.

A woman was using really bad language during the game and as we left the ground my nephew said to me...'why was that woman always shouting can't....?'

    Difficult to explain that one

I would have said bring him to G block but you would have had the student brigade infront of you who need to move a couple of blokes left and learn that swearing continually makes you look an idiot not HARD.

In the future do what I do and buy for the North Upper and just move through to the family enclosure in the North East quandrant. You can still enjoy the atmosphere without having to put up with some of the numbskulls that frequent the North Upper
