I think it'll be something like that, maybe slightly different as there are a few other ways of setting that team up.
Parky played a very different team a year ago against Hereford, and there's a few quotes in one of the News Shopper threads where he's suggesting that's what he'll do again.
Be interesting to see if Tuna and others get squad numbers and make the bench. We might be looking at getting them out on loan though.
there's going to be changes but do we think there will be this many ? Remember we play Orient on Friday so got to be careful.[/quote]
Agree except would keep Doherty for mambo and elliot for Worner, would like to see Worner have a couple of reserve games before he startsd a game. maybe if we are winning then bring him on for 20 minutes at the end, but don't forget the intention is that he isnot for the first team this season.
the Cup is still important as think what a big game against say Liverpool or Utd would do for us financially so we need to win the game. No reason why that team can't imo. I'm going and I'd be happy to see that team start.
The need to balance gelling the team and another game on Friday will mean a few changes, but a whole new back 5, not to sure as a back line needs playing time together to form an understanding. But will D and D both be able to play 3 games in less than a week.
[cite]Posted By: LenGlover[/cite]I'd rest Dailly and Doherty although the Doc is apparently only 30! Hard life I reckon!
Changes I'd make to Pouso's team would be to slot Martin in somewhere as he needs game time, possibly instead of Waggy, and swap Mambo with Dailly.
Yep I'd go with them changes Len, it would be good to have another look at how Martin fits in, and how Mambo looks in a competitve match, lets hope its all more fun then Hereford last year.

We'd need to win TWO cup matches to get through and be in with a chance of facing them. It's a miracle if we win one cup match but two?!

so pretty close to what I suggested then Len ?
As it happens yes!
I read the whole thread and noted Worner in goal for you which was one difference and Pouso's team was easier to look at than yours by then, being at the bottom of the thread.
The other difference to your team is Tuna rather than Waggy.
Would like to see Tuna get a look in but can't see it considering he doesn't have a squad number. I reckon he'll stick martin up front to see what he's like up there.
Parky will already have in mind his probable team for Friday. That's obviously his priority, but he's said today he intends to pick a team to win at Shrewsbury.
Back to Friday's team ....... we need those 3 points at Orient, so the key players at least need to be fresh and not risk injury, especially the older players. But some of Saturday's term will be eager to play again.
He might not risk Elliot at Shrewsbury - because there is no experienced replacement in the League, so agree with Large, play Wornley .......goalkeeping is goalkeeping, so he's going to be sound enough, having played 52 games for Woking last season.
Llera is certain to get a game, Fry also; Francis at least a half, but might not be risked for 90.
Mambo is straining at the leash and could replace Francis. Fry is also the cover for Jacko, so there might be a bit of a reshuffle in the back 4 during the latter stages of the game. But it's a big ask to run with such an unfamiliar back 5.
Large's midfield looks quite possible ....... the main consideration being if Semedo is suspended on Friday (any appeal yet?), then Parky won't want Racon hurt. And he'll want Reid rested, I should think.
Up front is anyone's guess .....Akpo ran himself into the ground on Saturday, so I'd rest him also.
So again, I'd go with Large's choice with Abbott leading the line, giving Martin the chance to play in his 'favoured' position.
There's bound to be a handful of Saturday's1st teamers on the bench to come to the 'rescue' if things don't go according to plan.
Remember. Large has already picked a winning team at The Valley - with a 100% record, in fact!
[cite]Posted By: smiffyboy[/cite]Is Llera not suspended due to sending off against swindon or is it only league games that count i thought it was all games
Considering we always lose against smaller teams in the cups, and always lose when we are on sky, I don't feel too positive about the upcoming two games.
I would, however, love a cheeky cup run and an away tie against a big premiership team.
• Charlton have not won or scored in this competition for three years.
• Since achieving a quarter-final berth in 2007, Charlton have fallen foul of lower-division clubs. Defeat here would see them going out to a League Two side for the second season in a row.
Elliot Francis Mambo Llera Fry Wagstaff Racon McCormack Smart Abbott Martin
Akpo won't play otherwise he'll be knackered for Oriental same for Reid. Francis needs match practice and Waggy could do with a good performance so would keep him in the side.

Waggy Racon Stavrinou Smart
Sodje Martin
Can't see Elliot starting, Number 1.
If he gets hurt and a loan keeper needs to be brought in - that's the next striker signing budget gone for a burton.
Defence and midfield - agreed, quite possible, although if he got hurt Jacko has no cover at LB except Fry.
Sodje was totally shattered after Saturday, he ran himself into the ground. Orient match on Friday, so he needs resting.
Start with Russ Abbott and give him an hour for match fitness, with Lee Marvin. And perhaps Tuna needs a run out?
Maybe there's a Plan B for the last 30 mins? Smeekes signed on non-contract?
I'd change all 11 personally, keep them fresh for friday, big game in front of the camera's, we have to show the league we mean business, and we need to go into Saturday morning on top of the league ;)
[cite]Posted By: charltonaddickedmatt[/cite]Worner in GOAL!, isnt going to get to meny chances this year, no harm playing him in a pointless CARLING CUP GAME,
Paint cup & FA for seriousness,.
Carling Cup for Youth!
But equally it won't harm giving Elliot more match practice with a different set of defenders. I imagine we're more likely to win with Elliot in goal, so I'd play him.

Hard job to balance tiredness with gelling the team and giving new players more time on the pitch.

It'll be a low scoring game like most of our cup games against smaller clubs. Unless Shrewsbury are really poor. So can see it being 1-0 either way.
