Floodlights

edited August 2010 in General Charlton
I know it got a bit gloomy during the match but do we really need to have floodlights on in the middle of August? The Club is supposed to be short of money - we could save on our electricity bill by not using the floodlights. Does anyone know if it is a League requirement to use floodlights when the sun isn't shining? I'd rather the club spent money on the big screen than waste money on floodlights in mid summer!

  • I thought the floodlights were a brilliant idea.

    Really lit up our play.
  • Often thought to myself on a 3 o'clock kickoff why the floodlights are on. But saying that when it clouds over as it did today, I imagine its darker on the pitch than you would think. Don't know perhaps if there is a minimum light level or something similar. But as you have said, if not its another little thing that could save that little bit more money
  • Theres so many rules & requirements in the game that it wouldnt surprise me if floodlights have to come on even if we can see we dont them.
  • Every person, every player, every club has it's dark side.

Ours is in the shadow of the West Stand.
  • Maybe we could all bring along torches? Or get the ball boys to hold lanterns?
  • Surely there must be no rules about floodlights. After all, as Blatter has kept pointing out to us, the game has to be the same at the highest level as it is at the lowest.
  • Once again the floodlights were switched on for the match. This is such a waste of money and not necessary at all. When I left the ground at 5.30 p.m. they were still on. It is AUGUST = we don't need floodlights on!!! If we've got money to spend on electricity, get the big screen clock mended instead!
  • I'd rather have the lights on, I'd hate to see the game abandoned for bad light and settle the match via the Duckworth Lewie method...
  • There was no question of the match being abandoned because of bad light - we can use the lights when necessary but not when it is just cloudy!

  • Down to the officials I believe, if they request them then we have to put them on.
  • Went on the stadium tour at Anfield a few years back and they were saying their electricity bill for the floodlights was something crazy like £200.00! Apparently almost all clubs have somesort of energy efficient design.
  • £200 quid....!

I think I'll get floodlights installed in my house...
  • I think they are automatic according to light sensors, high tech stuff ;)

Where do they steal the rest of the electricity from?
  • In true trainspotter style I have sought to clarify my original post.

Found the booklet they give out on the tour and the charge for floodlights was actually £55.00 per game!!!
  • I contacted the club and they have advised me that the floodlights were put on at the request of the match officials.

I knew they were blind but that's ridiculous...
