It's a lot to expect a fast winger to play flat out for 90 mins, so means a player tiring or with a slight niggle can be replaced with like for like without having to change the game plan.
And wait until the injuries and suspensions kick in.
[cite]Posted By: BlackForestReds[/cite]We now seem to have quite afew options to play on the wings, it could be a bit of a juggling act to make sure they get enough playing time though.
I like the sound of speed merchants on the wings.....when one of our fleet footed wing wizards has tired of flummoxing the opposition and running rings around them....we bring on another one!
Luverly!
Plus, we also get the opportunity to switch wings a fair bit with the squad we have now....they hate it when you do that!

Looks like Parky has a game plan up his sleeve:
1) Take 2 experienced but ageing CBs protected by perhaps 2 gritty defensive midfielders, to make a solid core to the team.
Add a fullback on either side who both love to get forward.
2) Add a speed merchant winger on either side to turn defence into attack on the counter.
3) Plus a big skilful target man, supported by a deeper lying player "in the hole".
So the speed merchant wingers, (and their cover) are a vital part of the plan ..... room for 4 players who can play that role.
And maybe one or two of those could double up to run the channel beside the main striker, if Plan B is needed?
[cite]Posted By: Richard J[/cite]I believe Smart is left footed as well ,so there is perfect balance Martin/ Wagstaff and Reid / Smart.
spot on
it seems as though some on here dont want competition for places if it affects the players that are homegrown
every team needs 2 players in each postion i am glad we are getting there, we could do with a striker now and i will be very happy with the squad going into this season
some off the crosses Waggy put in last season were brilliant. I think he will get better again this season. Also I think we will have a very fluid side full of movement and the standard of play could be the best for years
I absoulutely belive that Waggy should start today.
The ball is in his court. Then it's up to him to keep the shirt - and he will if he's good enough.
Martin or whoever will then have to prove that he's a better player once he gets his chance.
Judging by Parky's comments this week, it seems unlikely that Francis will be risked today.
Therefore IMO Solly should start .....then it's up to him to keep the shirt - and he will but only if he's good enough.
Francis, once fit and despite costing a fee, will have to prove that he is the better player once he gets his chance.
It's the way football teams should be - creating a player playing out of their skin to hold on to their position, and a player hungry to get that shirt.

Agree.
The new players will get a chance coming off the bench or more likely at Shewsbury.

Aaaaargh!
too many wide players esp. If you count jackson so hope Bally or Lee can be an extra forward.
Smart is meant to have real pace but feel he maybe the one to lose out.

and sometimes we need the finished article
You have been screaming all summer for more signings and that the squad is too thin but when we sign someone you complain.
Lets not sign the strikers you want and give Tuna and perkins a go?!
ps i RATE WAGGY AND THINK HE WILL START TODAY.

Is he progressing? Could we see him pushing for a place in the new set up?
Phil Parkinson said: “Bally has left us. We weren’t in a position to make him an offer long-term.
“His agent spoke to me about an option he had in Portugal, so the last I heard is he has gone to try his luck there.”
I was under the impression that he had left the club but Skysports and several other websites still list him, so assumed I was wrong.
