  • that is a surprise, the bin dippers
  • But I thought someone in here revealed guessed that we were definitely signing Spearing on loan.
  • In another article from the SLP Parky mentions that he is now concentrating on strikers and attacking players after signing the goalkeeper & defender...BUT

there will not be any further additions before Saturday (and I may add, Tuesdays cup tie at Shrewsbury)

Hence we go into the first game with just TWO strikers in the squad / Maybe they will now give Tuna a squad number, otherwise we are looking VERY thin up front.

I have a sneaking suspicision that the player (s) we are looking for (20 goal a season striker /attacking midfielder) just aren't out there om a free and only a significant fee (in excess of £250,000) will entice anyone.

Be prepared for not getting in the players we really need & set to struggle this season.

two weeks ago I was very optimistic after the signings of Reid & jackson, now i'm back toi my usual pessimistic self.

    PANIC
  • Golfie, at the start of last season were you worried about our lack of strikers?
  • Relax

i would rather we get it right than panic
  • On another thread it is mentioned that Parky may include a trialist from Holland on the bench for Sat. A striker which has to be the main priority but this does smell a little of desparation with only 48 hours till the KO.

Also surely we need a Right Midfielder to challenge Wagstaff, based on last season Waggy is not ready to start week in week out on the right and needs some competition. Reid can play there but obviously better on the left but I get the feeling that if Waggy is first choice for the first few games, there will be more people than expected missing Lloyd Sam.
  • Who did we have upfront last year at the start of the season other than Burton?
  • RING RING

Phil Chapple: Hello, is that Liverpool football club ?

    Scallie: Depends whose asking like

Phil Chapple: its Phile Chapple from Charlton football club here. I'm phoning with regard to our link-up

Scallie: Ne'er erd of ya. (phone down)

Have a re-read of that quote, I think you may have gotten your wires crossed....I personally think the trialist may be Norbert and he is a wide player.

i wont be one of them i want a player that can run for 90mins not 20
  • Inter milan.... 0 players

    Valencia.... 0 players

    Greminal beerschot.... 0 players

Shandong...... 0 players. (Agreement was setup once zheng had signed)

    Asemoas...... 0 players

    Angers........ 0 players

    Liverpool...... 0 players

The point is what in having these 'link ups'.. apart from 2 academy boys going to inter for a week a few years ago what is the point? The danish link ups brought us nothing but christsen on 30k a week!!!! As for the ivory coast boys, were never going to see them play for us ever. In the future just stick an extra 100k on all out transfers and don't waste our time with hopes of players comming our way.

  • I'm with you there Adam !!

as for the trialist set to make the bench on sat - good interview with Parky on the Os now that goes into some detail regarding players we are looking at.

Sadly Norbert, Buaza, Esejas etc have all left us...............a mystery striker from Holland is set to be in the bench.

[cite]Posted By: CAFC.co.uk[/cite]Asked about recent triallists, Parkinson revealed contracts were not being offered to Etienne Esejas, Guillaume Norbert, Guillem Bauza or Gunnar Thorvaldson.

But the Addicks boss told the media a Dutch striker had arrived for a trial and hinted the teamsheet might have an unfamiliar name on Saturday..

I think it's pretty clear the trialist is a dutch striker and not a wide man, certainly not Norbort anyhows.

Not all those links were set up for us to take players on loan. Germinal Beerschot and Angers were clubs to send some of the Ivory Coast players from ASEC to. Both had at least one player on loan from us at some point.

Inter Milan a change of owner or manager stopped anything from happening I believe.

A lot of these deals are also about the community side, scouting, youth coaching. Signing players from them is just an extra. The club might have got things out of them we'll never know about.
  • Michael Turner certainly did !!

He was one of the two youngsters we sent out to Inter. He came back and couldn't get into our team but now commands a transfer fee in excess of £5 million.

    very blinkered view adam.

you have conveniently forgotten the new zealand knights 'tie up'.

at least we got a home friendly out of them.
  • If Jon Jo wasn't good enough to feature in PP's plans then players behind him in the pecking order at Liverpool (ie those they are willing to loan and whom they havent paid hefty fees for ) certainly wont be good enough logically.

  • what !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i feel violated-------------------------cheated---------------------------my faith in humanity has fallen to a new low !

after all the top notch people our former con jobs sorry tie ups have given us how dare the hub cap nickers not supply at least 6 first teamers that i was expecting----its a sad day for all things football.
  • mind you they are giving us the cream of the legendry Scouse humour for a benefit gig

    Ken Dodd
    Stan Boardman
    Jimmy Tarbuck

    and Cilla Black

    weres the petrol can ?
  • The problem with the Liverpool set up is that currently they would not loan out the quality of player we would want because of the Carling Cup / Europa League. Spearing came on last night , Eccleston was on the Bench .I suspect these players will not be available for loan until later in the season.

We've seen West Ham sign two central defenders this week which in turn gave them the space to loan us Fry , currently Parky is saying we need to strengthen up front and wide right.Later in the season that might change and if the Scousers have someone suitable available then we will see.

  • Let's not get sidetracked about Liverpool loanees..... If something does materialise great, but I do not expect the new Robbie Fowler to be making an appearance soon for us!. I think this has the possability of late in the season, or even next year!. But with a new manager we might be pleasantly surprised!, especially if new owners come in and the cheque book comes out again.......

Whilst I admire the optimism, I for one am fairly sure that if anything of note including links up with the Community Scheme had ever actually happened through one of these "link-ups" then the club of scheme would waste not time in shouting it from the loudest rooftops.
  • The liverpool link up was just something to appease gullible fans disappointed by Jonjo being sold before the end of the season. Sorry if anyone was thinking we were going to get Torres on loan.
  • Inter Milan, Valencia, Liverpool.

All distinctly smelling of PR bovine stuff.

No surprise to the longer in the tooth amongst us that there is absolutely no substance. Still it keeps the OS guys occupied writing these fairy tales I suppose!
  • RM was pretty adamant that THIS time it was different and we would DEFFO going to get at least 1 player, poss 2 as part of Shelvey going there.

I believe the guy who was loaned out to Leceister last year was named

I think we had a friendly with China in the early 80's, nearly 30 later, ZZ came along. Don't hold your breath.
