  • Uncle is a Scouser

    lalalala
  • Is this the one where he says how rubbish our training was?

*presses add your comments button and hides under desk*
  • he didnt say that at all
  • No, he just says it's harder at Liverpool. I imagine training with some of the best players in the country is a bit harder than training with McLeod and Dicko :)
  • "It's much colder up north. I went down to London at the weekend, and it was like being in Spain......"

Nice one, Jonjo ....... all the best with your dream move.
You deserve it - Good Luck!
  • West Ham supporter..
  • I thought all of his family were West Ham?

South London Liverpool fans... tsk tsk tsk.

We've always known that...... but he did say he's got an Uncle who supports Liverpool !

Yeah one of my brothers does. always has done for some strange reason, tried to knock sense into him over the years but to no avail ;-)

  • Interesting times at Liverpool, if this Chinese chap buys them and pumps in hundreds of millions Jonjo may suddenly find himself a long way from the team having been involved with pre-season which would be tough. I guess he would be able to go out on loan to at least a Champ club though to further enhance his football education. I am sure he has the potential to become a real player and poss England international in future and hope that is not stunted by a foreign owner throwing cash at a club to bring in 20 foreign players ala Man City and so many before them.

At least Liverpool have a tradition of bringing through British and I would have thought Hodgson would have wanted to conitnue with that if possible.
  • I'm surprised Jonjo said that about the top pros, he spent the last few seasons with McLeod, Dickson & Fleetwood after all :0)

Good luck to Jonjo, I'm even watching their Europa League game on ITV 4 tonight just to see him!
  • So in conclusion:

Liverpool are a better team than Charlton and it's warmer down South. He should have signed for Chelsea or Arsenal.
  • People are friendlier up north though, including pizza hut. Not sure Woy'll be delighted that his new wonderkid is ordering junk food.

With the new home grown rules and squad size limit that's less likely though. Man City for example are going to have to leave some big names out of their 17 senior players. I'd have thought Shelvey is pretty much guaranteed a spot in Liverpool's 25 man squad and I can see him pushing his way up the pecking order in the next couple of years. He is awesome after all.
  • He's not on the bench today and their new central midfield signing Poulson is only in the stands. Would be suprised if
he didn't go out on a season long loan somewhere.

He has too many players in front of him both in a CM and a CAM role to start. Send him on loan to a football league team, and maybe a premiership team next year (a la Wilshere to Bolton) if he continues to mature.
  • His uncle said he is guaranteed to play 20 games for Liverpool this season.
  • Different manager agreed to that deal...

New manager, all bets are off...
  • Not if it was in his contract, which uncle said it was.

  • If he wants even 20 games then i think he'll have to go on loan somewhere. At liverpool this season i reckon his appearances will be extremely limited.
Looking at their bench today all those players are infront of him, and aquilani, insua and others weren't on there.

I remmebr the thread and there is no way 20 games is in the contract, it cant be... no player can demand such things contractually... they can say it verbally to get the deal over the line... but not in contract..

and new manager would negate that anyway...

Ig it was in the contract(not possibble IMHO) there would be so many conditions etc that it wouldnt mean anything anyway..

Well all I remember is Uncle getting the right hump when people questioned it. He even offered to go and take a picture of the bit that said it. I very much doubt he was lying.

New managers don't negate clauses in existing contracts.

The only question for me is what's in place if he doesn't get those 20 games. Does he get compensation? Can he go on a free? Because he's hardly going to sue Liverpool for breach of contract while he's still playing for them.

We should also remember that this was the very first game in a long season, and against one of the best teams in the country. Shouldn't draw any conclusions from Jonjo not featuring in this one.

And come to think of it, I think it was actually 15 games.
  • That right... I remeber now...

Fair point.. sorry for doubting you chunes..

Yeah not surewhat could happen, my thoughts were that even players like Drogba could not demand such things in a contract...
  • Watched him against the German team.Very neat and tidy.Suffered a bit when got sucked in the holding position .Tackling not his strong point.Grew in confidence and done a couple of very good attacking runs down the left.Looked quite at ease and is on the same tecnical level. He will get the fifteen games.
  • He didn't even play against Rabotnicki when they fielded a virtual reserve side so i can't see any way how he feel feature in 20 games now they have everyone back.

What you nean the one on the 29th away? Why would he play in that when he's already marked down to start the game 3 days later against Borussia lining up alongside Cole Gerrard and Carragher?

So the 20 games in his contract includes pre season friendlies?

Personally, looking at the strength of the Liverpool squad, I'd be quite surprised to see Shelvey start 15-20 matches this season. I'd be delighted to be proved wrong, though, because he's clearly not just a good footballer, but a splendid young man who is a credit to his profession and his former club (and his family, too, of course!)

Compare the situation with when Scott Parker left the Valley, though. Scott only ever made 15 appearances in a season and a half at Chelsea, and he was already an England international and PFA young player of the year by that time, so was at a more advanced stage of his development than young Shelvey is right now.

And if Shelvey is good enough to play 15-20 premiership matches this season, you have to ask again why he struggled to get into our side in div three for large chunks of last season !!!

Good luck to Jon Jo. though. I'm sure he will go to the very top, whether it's this season or next...

    LOL!

funniest thing I've read on here for ages - guaranteed 20 games for the reserves maybe or possibly even 20 games included in the squad but no way would Liverpool promise a 17-year-old, no matter how talented that he will play 20 first-team games this season
