Football coaches advice on cafc starting first game

edited August 2010 in General Charlton
i was wondering
Parky has a mixed bag of new and old players some have played in pre season games some not and maybe still a few players may yet come
we start in a few days time i was just wondering surely he and we do notexpect the team to hit the floor running on saturday (which must be the case for all teams) so i was wondering when you would expect the team to bed in or is enough work done on the training field to enable the team to gel from the first game.

  • I reckon we are gonna hit the ground running..

    2-0
  • By the time all the loans have been brought in, i really don't expect the 1st team to really show signs of fully gelling until October, late September at the earliest.

Its going to take patience i believe, and i hope, but doubt, our supporters are sensible enough to give it.
  • I have always thought from when i play that you only gain the knowledge of the man next to you by playing together competitively. Friendlies and training are all when and good for fitness and tactics, but 45 minutes here and there isnt goin to give you the psycological understanding you need at L1 level.
Personally, I think 5 or 6 games into the season should be a good marker of exactly how well our players have 'gelled'.
However, I do think we should have enough natural quality to get past Bournemouth on saturday.
  • Too true AFKA, no doubt there will be some idiots in the north upper booing if we're not 2 or 3 up at half time.
  • cheers thought that would be the case and as other teams in same boat guess down to the team who has best natural talent . So in theory it could be after 5 -6 games you realise you a dream team or a dud and i guess there lies the skill of the manager
  • No I do not expect the team to be going full tilt from the off.
Yes I do expect us to win on Saturday.

We are playing a newly promoted team and we have to win these games so that we have a chance towards the end of the season. If we lose to Orient then that's not as bad.

Remember how many points we missed automatic promotion by? That's proves that every game counts and we must be beating the newbies in order to give us a chance when drawing other games.

Sorry to lay the pressure on from the start but that's just they way it is.
