Charlton Athletic's Ivory Coast Under 20's star Serge Deble has apparently played 8 times for us and scored twice.

He is on loan at Angers. France. Work permit problems.

We could do with a promising striker with a reasonable strike rate. If he can play for Wigan or Blackburn why not us ?

    Already a thread on this. : - )
  • Cheers Henry, for the threads, so a group of Ivory Coast players needed to stay in France / Belgium long enough to get a work permit which would enable them to play in England.

Another one of our famous link ups ? Hmmmm.

But when that happened one of them, 18-year-old striker Gohi Bi Cyriac ended up going to Standard Liege.
Not quite sure what happened to the others, but apparently Wigan and Blackburn are interested in Serge Deble.

Though the previous article describes him as a Midfield player. Maybe he has changed position to striker.

A choice warming the bench or running up and down the training ground of Wigan / Blackburn instead of getting some regular competitive games at Charlton ? Surely, an Ivory Coast player would be more interested in settling in London ?

The hunt for a decent striker continues.

This one seems useful as well.
  • if he is going to get us some money we might aswell sell him and look for a renown striker but im afraid our manager doesnt think like that but as vff said the hunt for a decent striker does continue
  • Are we selling him again?
  • "if he is going to get us some money we might aswell sell him and look for a renown striker but im afraid our manager doesnt think like that but as vff said the hunt for a decent striker does continue".

Yeah, because Parky's bound to have plenty of say in this, if indeed it amounts to anything more than the old nonsense on FR. I'm sure he'd gladly pass up the opportunity to bring in a million quid at the moment, especially for someone he's probably barely seen and who's unlikely ever to apopear in his first team. Fancy choosing to hold on to him when Wigan and Blackburn are queueing up outside his office laden with the cash that could get us a "renown striker"!

    Don't understand.

We have an asset that might be valuable, but not to us in the short term. He will probably not have a work permit elsewhere, but the economics of the situation are that other premiership teams can afford to wait on this, while we probably cannot. Seems pretty simple. I doubt our team manager has any say whatsoever in what might happen to the player.

I'd like to see a harmonising of the Work Permit rules though.
