The replacements Parky has brought in look, if anything, an improvement on whats gone out (Reid for Sam, McCormack for Spring, Jackson for Bailey (on the left in any case) and Doherty for Sodje. Even Akpo is an improvement on Izale, Fleetwood or Dixon)
If he can pull similar strokes replacing Burton, Shelvey and Richardson + maybe another starting striker we're in business
At last a decent left-winger, interesting to see who'll play LB, if it's Youga then we'll have two pacy players on the left and probably the fastest left flank in the division.

apologies stop shouting for being busy all evening and only just logging on. Thankfully I got a text from Henry earlier to tell me of the news. Sorry to disappoint you but I am ecstatic with this signing and credit to Parky and the Club for getting Reid in. Now for three strikers please.
this is the first season parky has his own team to stand behind on limited funds.....inherited alot of history in the past, time to see if he can build the club back up....good luck for the new season....
Brilliant signing, a quality signing as the phrase goes -Chuffed! Well done everyone concerned for making this happen. Really starting to feel optimistic about this season.
Has anybody read the piece on the SLP page today? I cant do the linky thing but what I will say is what a sensible, level headed young man Kyel is. He explains how he came to us because it was the best place to play his football and that money wasnt the issue as he couldve got a much better deal elsewhere. Well done Kyel,it makes a very refreshing change to see a footballer actually go to a club for something other than the £s!
KYEL Reid turned down the offer of more money and a place in the Championship to play for Charlton this season because he believes it is the right place for him to build his career.
The 22-year-old winger has had spells with West Ham, Barnsley, Blackpool, Wolves, Crystal Palace and Sheffield United, but produced some of his best football while on loan at The Valley last term.
Addicks manager Phil Parkinson made signing him one of his top priorities during the summer, finally getting his man about three weeks before the start of the campaign.
And Reid says returning to his South London roots - he is from Deptford - wasn’t a decision he took lightly.
“Throughout the summer I had been speaking to a few clubs and keeping my options open,” said Reid.
“I sat down with my family to discuss what was best for me in footballing terms, not money terms, and I always had Charlton in the back of my mind. I haven’t yet had a full season where I’ve played 40 games and that’s what I need. I believe Charlton is the best place for me to get that.
“It’s not about the money - it’s all about football. This is the right move for me personally. I could have got more money elsewhere but money isn’t an issue for me right now.
“I’m fortunate enough that I’ve always been paid well and at the moment I had to put my future ahead of what I might earn in the short term.
“I’m at an important stage of my career and I need to be playing week-in, week-out."
