Tickets Available for Welling United V Charlton Athletic tonight in Stand

edited July 2010 in General Charlton
If you want to go tonight but want to sit, then you can still get seated tickets, a few remain for advanced purchase. You need to call 0208 301 1196 and ask for barrie the secretary (Even better if you can get to the ground early to pick up your tickets)

if you are just turning up before the game then you will be able to get standing tickets on the turnstyles.

There will probably be updates on the Welling forum for those who cannot make it. It looks like being a warm night so bring the family for this traditional derby friendly between the Wings and Addicks.

Cheers and lets hope its a good match.

Just the odd 8 or so should do
  • I am sure your scouts will be looking over the Welling Team as a couple of them have interested Charlton so far. Welling also have a few lively trialists due to play tonight so could be a good one. We normally get one or two of your youngsters during the season too. So plenty to interest both sets of fans tonight.

Ive seen Welling thrashed , draw and beat strong Charlton teams. Also seen blazing sun and torrential rain.

Just hope Parkinson doesnt do a Dowie, apart from that game most of the times the Addicks have sent a very strong team/squad to Welling and i know thats always appreciated by the Club and the Fans. Its almost a given that Charlton send their first team or first team squad to Welling. Its something they have done for many years and they look after Welling and have a good relationship. I think both sets of fans hope the other club does well during the season too.
  • I'm gonna try go to a Welling away game this season for a laugh really, would probs be the only one there, but still
  • Any reason for that Nathan?
  • Nathan

Welling have a core of Away followers ranging from 20-30 for a crap game at a crap team in midweek in the rain to 50-100 for a decent league game. They have been known to take 500-1000 away in the FA Cup swelled by local people and Charlton and Millwall fans. ( for games at Reading,Gillingham Swansea, Orient)

If you pick the right league game you will have a great day and have fun behind the goal, bring a few mates with you.

Something a few of us wanna do, like visit more grounds and all that

Nothing can be as bad as about our 50 at Forest Green last pre-season
  • wellingfan,

are John Farley, Gary Abbott & Lew Watts playing? ;-)
  • One of the best days out was a stag do in Weymouth whilst Wings were there away.

Steve Claridge was their player manager and Welling won 1-0.

Lots of cold drink was consumed.....
  • Know a couple of your lads wellingfan.... as I have posted on the other posting. Is Nathan Bell still at the club! decent winger used to be at the Gravesend academy.

Tommy Witnall was always a decent player, and saw he scored at the weekend, he was at Cray Valley with my lads and Jack Parkinson another of yours.Kane Rice as well.... alllocal lads

Hope these lads go on to bigger things, dissapointed that so many of the decent lads have not! . One of your old managers sons Lee Hales used to be at my sons school ( his strike partner) not sure where he is now even got into the England team at one stage! Hopefully Tamer Tuna will play and bang a couple in, hope it is a decent game for all concerned!

Gary, all have long since retired. They may even be there watching tonight. Gary Abbott is now manager at Sittingbourne.

But you will get a look at Jack Parkinson who is attracting interest from Several league clubs, hes young 6ft 3 and a center half. Also there is Andy Pugh and James Lawson up front both have been at league clubs and could get back there. Also Welling have a flying winger on trial who has come from a Premier League Team's academy.

I know mate, just pulling your leg as i know they were welling 'legends' when i was growing up. Farley, Lew & Ruthers are good lads, really good mates with my brother.
  • Been going over Welling every year since 1986, and have had some brilliant laughs down at the San Siro. Tonight will be the 1st Charlton friendly i've missed there and going to be strange not going.

Welling, Dartford and Bromley have traditionally filled the 2nd team role for most Addicks, and whenever i go over there when Charlton haven't got a game i always see quite a few i recognise from The Valley.

good luck for the season Wellingfan
  • Hi Ken

Tommy scored on Saturday, was a nice goal (Video is on the welling site under Herne Bay Report), Jack could be a very good player and i can see him playing league 1 at least and soon, hes also a sensible kid and does things properly. I would think Charlton could secure him for just into 6 figures (maybe a little more) and it would be a bargain and a half.

I will be interested to see Jenkinson tonight for the addicks, he was on loan with us last year but was called back a couple of times, i dont think he really settled at Welling and i wasnt too impressed with him from what i saw. Ive read that Charlton rate him though so good luck to him.

I see Randolph has gone to Motherwell? we had him on loan too, looked a good keeper for us. Also looking forward to seeing a few Charlton Youngsters playing as we will probably get a look at one or two of them in a Welling Shirt this season if the clubs continue to see Addicks youngsters play at PVR.

two things : 1) we have one Parkinson already and that's more than enough 2) six figures ? We'd struggle to pay four figures.

They do, played quite well on Saturday against AFC Wimbledon. Parkinson also said he really improved in the last few months of the season.

What position did he play for you?
  • Right Back and Center Half. As i say cant be easy for him as he was called back or with finland and in and out of the team. Hes obviously a decent player.
Am sure would have been better had he had a run with us. Hope he does well at Charlton.
  • His younger brother was at/is at Charlton Academy! with Tamer Tuna a year or so, I think he got turned down.
Agree about Jack P, sometimes you do wonder what these club scouts are looking for! ...... The lad has a good footballing brain, and a strong player, was well known in the Kent league 5 years ago!.....

Tamer was loaned to you , but his registration got screwed up and he did not play!...... I understand, very frustrating for a young player!....
  • Right its a massive game for Welling, so i am off to get ready and start the pilgrimmage. Will be great if a few of you who are thinking of coming along actually do it. Theres a pub next door and theres the clubhouses inside the ground.

The Welling Manager has said he would be grateful if people come as his budget is likely to be better the more that come to the 3 big friendlies. So phone up your mates and drag them along tonight.

Its massively appreciated by all at Welling.

Good luck to both teams tonight and for the season.
  • Hi wellingfan,

I called the club this morning looking to purchase seating tickets and was told I would have to buy them on the door before the game... Didn't ask for Barry though! From your post it reads as if you aren't normally able to buy the seating tickets on the door before the game, is that the case?

I would be trying to get to the ground for 7:00-7:15 ish...

When was the first friendly with Welling?

August 87. WUFC 1 (Abbott) CAFC 2 (Milne, Gritt) in front of 900.

Quoted crowds quite small which surprised me. Only been once but thought it used to sell out. Most gates around or under 2,000 with a couple just over 3,000.
  • i would not believe some of the gates for the friendlies. Having been a decent judge of Welling crowds over the years, i know when there is a lot more in the ground than what the Hobbins put out !!
  • Pretty sure you could buy Seating tickets before the game IF any are left. So i would suggest getting there early enough to be certain. If the club have said they will have some left tonight then they obviously know the score with what tickets remain.

The facility is there to pick them up before the match if you want to be certain of a seat or choose from the remaining seated tickets left.

Definitely able to get in on the gate tonight for terracing so no worries there.
  • it says on the welling site update today that tickets can be picked up before the game, or can pay on the gate so you should be fine what ever you decide.
