Well thank fook we lost to Wimbledon, hopefully Welling to follow, just to ensure the message is clear, Parky needs sufficient support to turn his side into one that can at least challenge for a play off place next season, if that truly is the aim (am abroad on hols, so only just catching up with the CL chat and reports).
I'd be delighted if Dailly were to re-sign, if Fortune was willing to accept much lower wages, him too, as that would give us 4 decent centre halves at this level and then I'd do my best to bring in Kyel Reid (if rumours on here and elsewhere are anywhere near accurate) and Simoen Jackson and Buaza. I'd then try to bring in a few youngsters from Liverpool and Arsenal (only because the latter's academy seems to produce gem after gem).
Maybe living on another planet, as I know there are next to no funds, but that wage bill (as was) has been reduced enormously and having raised funds through 3 key sales, he may have enough to draft in few on frees and small fees, as long as wages can be agreed.
Jackson, Doherty and McCormack are good starts in the rebuild, so who is to say we won't have a stronger first team next season, albeit not such a strong squad?
I can't see us signing Jakson he would cost money.
Parky stated that the board wanted to sell Richardson, not him. Therefore the case to sacrifice a defender for cash to buy a striker doesn't seem the case.
no-one has said we will have a squad challenging for the play-offs. We have been promised a squad that is competitive. Well a lot of teams in League 1 last season were competitive, just not very good. My uplift in mood of a week ago, after The Doc signing, has now dipped again to below where it was previously. If we need 8 new signings we need to get on with it damn soon.
I think we need to be patient as fans, the Manager was pretty much only given the green light to sign players at the end of last week. Hopefully we'll be trying to get decent ones which may take longer to secure.

well according to Parky's comments yesterday he still hasn't been given the green light. If it's stuck on red much longer we'll be in real trouble.
I'm 99% certain he wont get the 8 players he wants. Personally I think it will be Basey signing a new deal, another CB, a right sided player and a striker. We will then plug the gaps with loans.

We can't rely on too many loan players, as last season shows. Using one or two to plug a gap when injury strikes is fine, but filling your team with 5 or 6 is a recipe for disaster.
For one its only natural they wont put in 110% - its not their team so why should they
But more importantly at the end of the season they leave & you have to start all over again - at least if you sign someone you may get a fee for them if they move on, as Baily & Richardson has shown.
Look at this season. We had a load of players out of contract, some of which we wanted to leave due to high wages and some we wanted to keep, but we also had 5 players leave us after the Swindon game that we HAD to replace because they weren't ours in any case.

And Parky said himself that it is not true about loan players not caring, he said they often care more than players who's contracts are up at the end of that season.
And it stands to reason as they have more to gain if they play well. If they play well, they will impress their own manager and get back into a side that is in a higher position (I had a conversation about this with Darren Ward who was frustrated that his manager hated him so his own efforts were
And being in contract is very clearly no indication that they will be around the following season. In fact it seems we almost have more ex-loans coming back sometimes than we do in contract players.
But one of last season's loans has now signed a contract (Jackson) and this was welcomed by most fans as would any deal for kyle Reid.
My view is the "around 8" players that Parky said he wanted included some loans but that hopefully they will be 1. season long loans 2. with an option to buy.
I wasnt indicating that loans were my preference. More that I have a gut feeling that we will struggle to attract 8 players who fit our budget and requirements and that loans will be used when this happens.
Having said this I'd rather see a short-term loan than a panic 1 year freebie.
Been said before, loanees aren't the problem, bad players are, as are players looking to get fit. Just have to find players that have something to play for, like Kyel Reid, Akpo Sodje etc did. They all had something to prove, Akpo wanted to win a contract here, no one would say Kyel Reid didn't care and wasn't trying. As an example, Alex Song was a better signing than Amdy Faye, yet he was the loanee and Faye was the permanent signing.
Getting a striker on loan from a higher league would be ideal, we need a goal scorer and they'd have something to prove as they'd be wanting other teams to notice them. Would hate for a keeper on loan, think a permanent signing on one would put more pressure on Rob Elliot to perform more and give him more competition.

Bang on.
I think Parky's loans have generally been very good whereas Pardew's where generally a total disaster.
Parky brought in Borrowdale, Jackson, Akpo Sodje, Mooney, Ikeme and Reid and they all performed very creditably.
Pardew brought in Scott Sinclair, Lee Cook, Leroy Lita, Linvoy Primus and God knows what other shite and all of them - with the possible exception of Lita - were utter crap.
1.A new keeper
2. A right back- possibly Butterfield or Francis
3. Centre back- Fortune or Dailly
4. Basey to sign a contract
5.Esajas???
6. Another right winger or striker
7. Bauza???
8. A goalscoring striker.

I think that could be a good analysis but 3 4/5 it could be 2 from Basey , Esajas or (in my dreams) Kyel Reid or only one of those and keeping Dailly as well as Fortune.
I think a lot depends on where Parky sees Jackson playing and when Youga is returning.

At least that's three less than last year...
Things are beginning to look better already...

Do you mind if I push the plate away?
each to their own ;-)
Right Back - Liam Rosenior
Right Midfield - Glen Little
Left Midfield - Etienne Esajas
Forward - Leon Knight, Dean Morgan, Guillem Bauza
Are you joking?

we need a half decent goalie ... we wont get promoted with elliot as our no.1
Did Robbie Elliot bully you at school or something?
no i just think he's pony"
Home-grown player syndrome.
We bang on about players who are "Charlton" but when we have them we can't wait to kick them.

Sorry, Scoh ...... it wasn't Parky, but Kinsella talking about strengthening the front line.
