Apart from crosses and dead ball stuff, it struck me that MKD didn't play hoofball even in League 2. So many of his goals came from killer through balls played on the floor for our chum to run on to - and his movement and pace was always superb. I guess his team mates always played to his strengths - and of course, his confidence must have been sky-high!
One move saw him leave 2 defenders for dead by taking the ball between them, before scoring. And another time, he won a penalty by a superb burst of acceleration to win a ball that he should have had no chance of getting, and was straightaway taken down in the box. Then there was his 'Paolo Wanchope goa'l, lol ..... and he had no qualms about going 1-on-1 with the keeper and converting, time and time again.
No wonder Pardew watched this video and bought him, lol
Where did he go wrong at Charlton ......was he just overawed to be playing alongside household names like, erm .....Lloyd Sam, and was it really only lack of confidence? Because the composure was all there in the video.
his price tag pardews comments and no doubt some expectation levels, shame tho cos from what you say he is in there somewhere waiting to come out again, thats football tho I guess - should never have been signed for more than 500k up front
didn't he step up two levels as well, might have been too much, or maybe just not good enough
[cite]Posted By: kings hill addick[/cite]Can I ask why you do this?
Why would anyone want to bother starting a thread that is completely useless and misleading?
I agree with you (even though I started it I hate these type of posts, edited the title)
I really wanted to open a discussion about Izale.
We're already playing his wages and in the past he was a very good striker, he's only 26 so arguably he is not yet in his prime.
Surely Izale can't have be that bad a player that he's not even worth considering playing?
We talk on here about how great it would be to sign a 20 goal a season striker on a free/minimal fee, when perhaps with some coaching and some confidence we already have one?
Believe me I'm not his biggest fan, but with our financial problems I'm more than willing to give him another chance.
With out financial problems can we afford his wages? He signed for over £1m, on a 4 year deal, as a potential Premier League player. Surely on a good wage, certainly more than he's worth, unless he drastically improves.
I think the pressure was too much for him, and he was no longer the star the team was built around. He's not the kind of striker you want against a team defending deep and packing their own penalty area either, which we often played against at home.
Personally i hope we can keep him and get some use out of him this season, I have a feeling that he has a lot to offer at this level and the change of personel in other areas might suit him better
Looking at the Yotube clips, I cannot believe he is the same player. Agree with Choice that maybe he is worth one FINAL chance.
We are not going to get much money for him and I honestly believe we are not going to get somebody in who is much better. McLeod is certainly capable at this level and did look like he could score goals when he played last season- he usually got at least 1 chance per games last season- home games in particular.
Despite the fact I have called him McLown, slagged him off a lot and the Northwich incident was disgusting- would be pig sick to see him go somewhere else and thrive.
last chance saloon... but with how we are, and with a sort of fresh look to the team and lots of players coming and going... you just never know.. if he get a goal on opening day of the season you just never know..
As someone pointed out, he was the star player at MKD in a very decent side.
And with all those goals under his belt, he had the so essential confidence and composure in front of goal that a striker needs.
That season, MKD played a very attractive game on the floor, balls to feet and then killer passes through the defence for Izale to race on to. He must have had a very shrewd manager, who got the team to play to McLeod's strengths.
We never seem to have done that at Charlton, as we've invariably lumped high balls to whoever plays up front. And he's always been a bit part player - though in his first game, he came on as sub and won us 2 penalties in the 10 minutes he was on; Norwich just couldn't handle his pace that day. So great start!
Then against Hartlepool in the League Cup, he won a penalty, took it himself - and missed. He came on as a late sub at Palace after Toddy put us a goal up ...... was clean through in the last minute and completely fecked up - just the sort of chance he'd put away all the time at MKD.
IMO he never recovered, collapsing inwardly. And being constantly abused for his subsequent string of misses, resulted in him mentally going to pieces in front of goal. But I remember him going crazy after scoring the winner at home to Exeter last season, the sheer relief. And every one of his team mates went over to him to celebrate together - great team spirit!
As others have said, there's a 20 goal striker still in there. But IMO he has to have that belief and composure return before it can happen again.

he needs a few pre season goals and then one on opening day...
If Parky could do some magic pre season he could be something useful for us..
