Dont expect much money from the Bailey deal!

The way the official site broke down the Bailey deal explaining that Southend made as much as us is I believe to temper expectation that we have money to spend. I do hope however that with the JJ, Bailey and Richardson fees taken into account there is enough for Jackson and Reid I will be much happier if we get those two on board and keep Semedo and Racon.

  • Not expecting any money to be honest. Any fee paid will be a huge bonus as far as I am concerned.
  • Bailey cost us £500k in total. Deduct from the £1.4m fee Boro paid = £900k gross profit.

Take away Southend's £225k windfall = £675k net profit for us.
But we'll still bank around £1.17m.

Not that Parky will see much of it. But there may be enough to tempt some of the better players to the club with a decent signing on fee.
  • southend got £225k we got £1.175m so not really similar.

Doubt much will be spent on fees but some might go on wages.
  • Just get Jackson in, forget Reid
  • I accept that we will recieve £1.175 at the moment just strange that they stated that we paid £500,000 originally made me think they were trying to let us know there is still nothing to spend!

If not, I've got an old Jackson Browne album you can borrow.
  • i think they explained that we'd paid 500k so the other figures made sense.

But you are right not to expect to see too much go on fees.

wages are where the money will have to be spent.
  • Cheers Oggy may have to take you up on the offer on two counts 1) I like Jackson Browne and 2) Far from convinced that we will see Jackson and Reid back at The Valley.
  • late for the Sky? about missing out on the TV money or The Pretender about pards
  • We live in hope....

Whatever happens, that was a good sum to get in the current economic climate, even if we have to give a significant portion to Sarfend. They need the cash, so I'd rather we gave it to them than many other teams that aren't suffering as much. Of course, I would prefer it if we were able to keep the lot!

  • Less the 250-300k we probably paid in wages and you get very little left

    It's on vinyl.

    Still got a record player?
  • tel, in terms of profit and loss yes.

However his wages are already spent. What we have is a big cash injection into this years budget.
  • Not expecting any of it to go on transfer fees. May allow us to fund the wages of a couple of new free transfers, but I'm expecting most of it to be swallowed up by general running costs.

Lets not forget we need money to run the club too. Last season it was bandied around that we needed 10,000 season tickets to pay fort he Valley, I believe we have fallen short so far this season and don't expect too many more to be sold, so we have to make up that short fall.
  • Anyone know if we're getting all the money up front of is this just a breakdown of who get what if the deal reaches it's full potential value? Am I reading the article right that we have installed our own sell on clause too?

    Looks like it
The 26-year-old, who was the club's skipper last term, passed a medical at the Riverside Stadium on June 28th after previously agreeing personal terms, but the paperwork on the transfer, which includes a sell-on clause, was only completed nine days later.

    Southend's £225k must have been 25% of any profit. I guess we'll have a similar clause 20-25%.

I believe there is a rule that says you get 50 per cent of a fee up front. But you may be able to borrow against the balance as long as the bank thinks it will be forthcoming. Don't know for certain if there are any if and but clauses in the figure, but I doubt it or we wouldn't be able to say what Southend are getting.
  • Speaking of Southend, can we please set aside 150k for Simon Francis? Screw the rest of the costs, make a one off. He's a right back - we need one - and I'd venture he was their best player last season.
