why no comment by the management on the OS

about Richardson leaving ?

Surely it deserves at least a "we are thankful for his services" or " the offer was too good to turn down - I didn't want to let him go, but...."

Shame on you Charlton.

  • it's one of those stories where you try and brush it under the carpet as soon as you can. I expect it to be off the front page of the OS tomorrow evening. Why does Parky need to say "we needed the money cos we haven't got a pot to piss in"? it's only going to be viewed badly by other clubs/agents/prospective players. Keep the faith
  • Yes, damn Charlton for talking about players who are going to be playing IN our shirt next season rather than those who have left.
  • Maybe they are busy working on other deals

Maybe they are thinking about going home for the evening rather than saying something to appease the grumpiest charlton "fan" I know

They really can do nothing right by you can they!
  • I bet you Parky is every bit as fed up about it as we are, but needs must. He's the one saddled with the problem of putting it right now...

I agree that we shouldn't be puting negative quotes out there, but it is a shame however, that the sale of Richardson somewhat contradicts a positive statement on Friday saying that the manager was looking to build a squad around good players he had left in the squad.

"We've still got some good players. The likes of Frazer Richardson and Jose Semedo walked back in on Thursday morning, and they want to see the club having a real go at getting promotion and having a successful season. We need to build a squad to take the club forward and I know the supporters will be looking for positive news."
  • This is quite painful to watch, how on earth are we going to get a fresh set of 10 or 11 players playing well together in literally no time? This season could be a painful one. :(
  • Parky probably found out about this not long before we did.
  • doesn't matter, the club should have some class and thank Richardson for his service

Parky is on the OS laudeding up some bloke I've never heard of, but strangly quiet on the best right back in the division.
  • Give it a break will you Golf, I'm sure the club were well chuffed seeing the back of Richardson ey!
  • well hold on Golfey-- Richardson has been here one season and he got paid for it . I have been turning up at The Valley for 42 years (unpaid) and they aint said thanks to me yet !

does ring a bit hollow now but I'm sure when he said it that the Richardson deal wasn't even mooted. I reckon it has taken Parky by surprise as much as it has us. Another problem for him to deal with. I do agree that the Board maybe could do a bit of a positive spin item to reassure us that we will have a team at least capable of staying in League 1 for another season. At the moment it doesn't seem like we will.

and I am feeling for him at the moment. He's had the rug pulled from under his feet and is having to replace it with a sheet of newspaper. He shouldn't be in the job in my opinion but that is now in the past and he needs all our support. Doesn't mean I won't criticise him though if I feel he get's something wrong but his hands are now tied so far behind his back it's unreal.
  • I don't care what Parkinson has to say about him. He's gone and I think he (Parky)should be lauding up the new signings and rightly so.
  • You are right Large
He aint the best by a long way.
    He aint the new Curbs
Hell, he aint the new Gritt
But he is ours. He is sticking it out
    He is working in quicksand.
And I believe he is doing the best job he can.
for that he gets my total support. And IMHO all like minded true addicks should get behind him through thick and thin this season/
    For what is the alternative?
  • The cynic in me says he has a ready made excuse for a poor start, the realist in me knows we are looking at re-building as a league one club and the next few years will been a slow climb back.

I only wish we knew when we'd reached the bottom.
  • There is much you can read into the statements that are out there, but the non-statements IMO are more worrying. On the Richardson transfer specifically, you can read what you want into Richardson's quotes, the non-quotes attached to the announcement on our O/S are deafening. I don't agree that we need to be thanking Richardson for his services, but surely there would have been some value in explaining the benefits of this deal to CAFC ? It doesn't have to come from Parky, there are others close to the deal who could take a few seconds out to text a quote to attach to our statement. Even a "this deal allows Phil to finalise some deals which will make his 2010/2011 squad as competitive as possible" would be better than having an event cause so much unease amongst the support. AFKA pointed out in another thread, that potential targets will start asking questions about our intentions on being competitive this coming season based on our transfer activities, it is natural for supporters to do the same if they are not fed some positives.
  • Not too late for Parky to talk about the Richardson deal. Wouldn't be surprised if there's a few quotes on the SLP website or similar later this week with him saying it was an offer we couldn't turn down.

not too bothered with what Parky says. Do we really think he wanted Richardson to go ? Of course not. Would like some reassurance though from RM that we will be signing soem decent players and putting together a decent squad that can challenge for the play-offs although I think that possibility remote. Plus, where do these sales end ? Will there be any more enforced sales ? Okay someone offers a ridiculous amount for a player that is different but as things stand now after selling Shelvey, Richardson and by the look of it Bailey do we NEED to sell anyone else. Fairf enough question in my opinion.
  • Do agree with you there, would rather know about the future than know more about the deal for Richardson.
  • The bottom line is that Richardson was 450,000 pure profit coming into CAFC - there is no way that can be refused at this point in time.

We are now in a position of having to cut our cloth according to our size - just like 95% of other clubs in the FL.

How many clubs out there - outside the Premiership - are actually spending money?

I think everyone knows the answer to that question and isn't one that Charlton supporters need answering. Equally it is very evident that at present we are not turning down decent offers for our best players, nor are we replacing like with like. A question that does need to be answered is, where does it end ?
The main difference between CAFC and other clubs outside the Premiership at present is that we continue to sell off the crown jewels and replace them with bling !

If all League 1 clubs are cutting their cloth accordingly, we should still finish 3rd/4th next season. The vibe at present isn't consistent with that expectation.

  • Its the big sale off, and the final one... the last vestiges of quality leave the club and we are going to need some extraordinary luck and talent o get us out this mess...
  • Parky shouldnt be too surprised at losing his players.
Perhaps if he hadnt got us relegated and then kept us down, he would have been able to hold on to everyone he wanted.

Yes - i am in a bad mood this morning.
  • I dont think the sale of richardson was to long in the discussion. parky mentioned it was good to see players like him and Jose turning up for pre season so i would imagine a good offer came in and happen quite quickly.

I do think that all those that have there doubts on Parky should lay of him for a while as if he gts us anywhere near challenging this it will be a miracle and dont suppose to many managers would be gagging to job in our hot seat at the mo
  • Oh my god, did not expect this at all! really not happy i'd say after Semedo & Daily he was our most consistent performer last season and will be a big miss.

As for the OS not printing more negative news thats bull, if they have sold him they should put something in there im assuming the offer was too good moneywise for him like the report says big shame. maybe will bring ominuzi in now who did ok but would prefer richardson anyday but im guessing its down to wages etc
  • As someone has already said, Parky is walking on quicksand - and with one hand tied behind his back.
It's not Parky selling his key players, and nor would he want to.

And yet Parky is the only one not moaning.

So cut the guy some slack for sticking to his task, and now having to replace a player who he'd no doubt already pencilled in as a cornerstone of his team building.
  • [cite]Posted By: johnnybev1987[/cite] maybe will bring ominuzi in now

HAS ALREADY SIGNED FOR lEYTON oRIENT
  • Oggy, personally i dont think Parky can do anything just seems like a sinking ship a dependable player has been sold and how much of the out of contract players will leave? who knows still its going to be a much different team the start of next season. the fact that we have got a fee for a player who is in for free last season should mean we can sign a couple of frees at the very least, wont make a judgement on the team until i see it on August 11th(i think) but not happy with seeling frazer even though can understand it totally. Dont think Solly is ready for the step up just yet, but im sure well get someone else in
