Season Tickets and My Brother

edited July 2010 in General Charlton
So my bro has had the same tickets (4) in the North West Quad on the over hang bit at the front since it opened, he has also had a season ticket for donkeys years. His business has been a bit slow so he missed the ST purchase. However he has just been paid for a big job so called the club today and said have my 4 tickets gone, no said the young lady, my bro explained that he is waiting for a cheque to clear, can she reserve the tickets for him, no she says, he offers to put down 100 deposit so he can pay on Friday, again no is the answer. So he has decided he wont buy any STs this season and go on a match to match basis, thanks Charlton, thats loyalty for you!!! He goes home and a lot of away games too. the club are struggling for dough yet they cant make exceptions or change the rules slightly in this economic climate. They could check he has had the same tickets for years. Idiots!!!

  • Funny that, sister has had season ticket for years now she's just had a baby. As a surprise I was gonna keep her seat in the family and buy it for my first nephew.
    A. The club said that don't sell tickets for under 18 months. I said I'd buy it anyway.
    B. They wouldn't sell it to me without a birth certificate, ideal that for a surprise present.
    C. Worse thing about it he's dads millwall and will now end up down there.
    Cheers charlton.
  • Prob'ly something to do with " elf & safety".....

    Yep, shouldn't have any trouble.
  • Yeah will definitely be fine that Damo! An 18 year old using an under 11 would not be however :P

  • Staff announcement Mr addick is in the stadium....

Que nathan being dragged out by his ears.

Staff announcement Mr addick has left the building..
  • A resolution has been found, my brother emailed the club and bitched at them, the club contacted my brother and he now has his ST's, same seats as ever. Happy Days!!
  • see there's an answer for everything. I thought the clubs answer was quite reasonable to be honest.

You may find that the non selling of STs to under 18 months is to stop one from buying them for £49 then trying to use them for Adults. I have heard stories about adults using children's tickets and getting away with it.

This season's ticket makes it more obvious when a ticket is on a concession basis, but I suspect that there will still be occasions when the turnstile operator decides not to challenge someone.

As it is very unlikely for an 18 month old to go there is some logic in the club refusing to sell one a season ticket.

At best it saves the seat (and stops the club from selling it) for someone to be guaranteed to use it with an upgrade a couple of times a season. At worst, frankly, it is an attempt to defraud the club of an adult ticket for the price of a child ticket.

I'm not suggesting that anyone on here is doing this, just that the club needs to reserve the right to be suspicious.

cant do that this year tickets are different colour for juniors and adults,,, would take a complete dummy to not check the colour with the person

Went to Wigan Blackburn over Xmas and went in with a under 8 season ticket! They have electronic tickets, so not even a steward on the turn style!!
  • my son's had one from birth, just under a year ago, mind you it was a downgrade of my ticket, i did it in person tho which might make the difference - who knows. Never shown a birth certificate for him or my daughter now 10. I don't use them much and upgrade/buy when needed, I simply don't go to enough games to justify buying a full season ticket for myself. I can understand the clubs point of view, but its up to them to produce better season tickets/turnstile operators, isn't it? Or perhaps they just aren't worried about losing the cash/goodwill.

I did mention that NLA, but I suspect that it's less a case of not knowing, but more a case of not wanting to challenge an agressive looking bloke. Especially when an adult rips out, say four tickets in front of the turnstile operator only for more adults than children to follow through.

I don't want to suggest it is a big problem but to save hundreds of pounds a year one will come up with all sorts of schemes to get away with it.
  • Staff in the commercial centre will apply the club's ticketing and sales policies and they have no authority to make exceptions or special arrangements. The policies are usually in place for good reason and if a good case is made for changing them we will consider it, e.g. we have introduced a cheaper over 60s/U21 price this season because a number of people wrote in and made the argument. We will also unpick any problems that arise from mistakes or misunderstandings wherever possible, although there are limits to what we can do on matchdays because of the need to focus on selling tickets and managing queues.

I've got no objection to people criticising the club if we get it wrong or even if they disagree with us and the public discussion can be helpful, but sometimes they go straight to message boards like this without fully understanding the issues or write letters to directors when their particular problem can easily be resolved or explained. With that in mind, Matt Wright and I are thinking about improvements we can make to the information we provide to help supporters to contact the right part of the club, particularly online. In most cases, it's best to put the issue in writing to the relevant manager first.
