Who will lead the line next season.

I wanted to open up the debate about what strikers you lot think we should sign and also what will happen to McLeod and Tuna. We need 4 strikers who will they be???

We have looked at Simeon Jackson, Lee trundle I've heard aswell. We desperately need pace a player that can score goals and not a target man.

Comments

  • Well looks like we may have warren feeney, so currently we have Akpoe and Feeney. Mcleod we are desperate to clear out, Tuna will get the odd look in but that is as far as it goes for him.

Hopefully we will get a couple more in one being a decent experienced striker and maybe a loan reserve from top of the Prem
  • we are fecked if we can't get someone of Burton's quality
  • Izale McLeod should never see the inside of a Charlton shirt ever again. He's a complete disgrace.
  • Feeney from where?

I think sodje, tuna is what we have. Would be nice to get some pace in.

McLeod has never done it. But maybe in league 1 he can score at least once.
  • We may end up having to give McLeod another chance and he might surprise us all by banging a few in.

More likely to score regularly at this level than Tuna or Sodje IMO
  • Yes maybe he will.

We may also win the league.
  • McLeod will go, Tuna a bit part player as he prefers playing in the hole. At the moment we have Sodje although Feeney is a maybe. Matt Harrold is another I expect to come in as he is supposedly on trial. Need a pacey front man on a freebie, not many about. Think we'll end up with Sodje, Harrold, Feeney, another and Tuna as back-up. The most important of those is going to be 'another'. Let's hope Parky can pull something decent out of the hat.
  • No Mooney then?

His haters will be pleased I suppose.
  • Fabian Brandy is perhaps the only free option out there for that fits the pacy striker category; but he's just told skysports he's looking for a premiership or championship club. perhaps if he doesn't get any takers he might come to us, but i doubt it.

the only other option is to loan one. Luke Freeman would have done - but he's gone to yeovil for 6 months. maybe someone like Freddie Sears instead.
  • what about O'Toole of Barnet. On a freebie and scores goals. What sort of striker is he ?? Read the other day that he had offers from a number of League 1 clubs and was due to give Barnet an answer on a contract offer there within days.

Assuming you mean John O'Flynn, quick Google search he's deciding next week. He's had offers from 'the division above', so that might include us.

Decent record, but not outstanding, might just need better players around him though. In all competitions he scored 16 in 41 last season and 18 in 36 the year before.

He's 28 in a few days so only has a couple of seasons experience of English football.
  • O'Flynn would be a good signing, his record is actually better than it may appear.

Been informed that he played a fair amount of games last season when he was not fully fit and rushed back from injury, therefore of those 41 games, there are probably a few when he should not have been playing. Also he has played for a side near the bottom of League 2, imho he would thrive in a side challenging higher up a league where there should be more chances created.
  • Floyd or Harvey at this rate.

Did you miss last season mate?

You mean last season when we won plenty of games and from what I remember our strikers and indeed attacking midfielders had plenty of chances certainly in the home games. The Swindon play off game for example, how many chances did we have?

Imho last season the problem was not always creating chances, it was finishing. Look at the home defeats to Orient and Norwich- we has enough chances to win both games comfortably.

Mooney, Akpo, Burton and indeed McLeod in his few games had enough chances to improve ther goal tally by quite a bit.
  • Febian Brandy, Warren Feeney, Clinton Morrison, James Scowcroft and Darius Vassell all available on a free
  • Sign up Brandy and Morrison!
  • Will be interesting to see what parky does. Hopefully all out goings have stopped minus maybe mcantscore hopefully he will go.

We need a morrision from the lower leagues who has th desire and pace.
  • I'm loving how my random mention of Brandy has snowballed into actual rumour. Lol.

As an aside how many rumours that people randomly shout out have become fact/interest/signings?
  • Lee Trundle is available and it's rumoured that we are interested. He should be good at this level.

  • This time last year (more or less) Swindon bought Charlie Austin. Perhaps we'll unearth the 2010/11 equivalent.

Our top goalscorer will be none of the players named above.
  • [cite]Posted By: Danny Addick[/cite]Lee Trundle is available and it's rumoured that we are interested. He should be good at this level.

He's a skilful player but is 33 years old and apparently wants to stay in either Wales or the North West so can't see us getting him.
  • Can we not ask liverpool to send a youngster!!!!

Where's Martin Pringle when you need him!!!
  • [cite]Posted By: CrayAddick[/cite]Where's Martin Pringle when you need him!!!
He's a manager now in the Swedish third tier.
  • Serious? Wooow what a ledge.... How random some careers go....
Pringle then took up coaching, his first head coach spell being with Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC in the Swedish Women's League. In 2008, he accumulated at male football, assisting at Örgryte IS.
In December 2009, Pringle was named Västra Frölunda IF manager.[5]
  • The next Charlton manager it would seem!!!

Nice to hear he is doing well.
  • Kopparberg FC, what a great name. Their cider is very nice!
  • Bet they have some nice beer gardens.
