Charlton look poised to complete the capture of Kepa Blanco, in news which will allay fears of being gazumped by Manchester City.

The Sevilla striker has been a primary target of Addicks boss Alan Pardew in the January transfer window and while a deal has always been in the pipeline, in recent days it had been suggested City had stolen a march on their Premiership rivals.

Kepa has grown frustrated by a lack of playing time at the surprise Liga leaders, as although he started off the season by grabbing a hat-trick against Levante, thereafter and he has pretty much had to play second fiddle.

Charlton are desperate for firepower, especially given the recent loss of Darren Bent to injury, and see Kepa as the man who could fire them to safety.

A reported €300,000 (£200,000) fee has been agreed for the loan of the player until the end of the season, with a €6million (£4million) transfer in place should both parties wish to make the deal permanent.

"We are optimistic because there exists a deal for the exit of the player," confirmed Blanco's representative.

"The player only desires to play and today, that is impossible at Sevilla."

  • One look at the league table and he'll be off to City.
  • Anyone would be better than the complete wastes of space we had playing up front against Boro.

Depends if he thinks he'll get a game.
  • London is always good draw.

Hope the figs aren't true because £4m for a fifth choice striker is very good business on their part...
  • he wont sign if we go down though i shouldnt think and it seems we both have a choice of whether the deal goes through at the end.

if he scores 12 goals between now and the end of the season then £4m will be good business!
